Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Spatial Analysis, Critical

open access: yes, 2009
This article describes attempts that cross-fertilize spatial science and critical geographies and challenge the analytical/quantitative versus critical/qualitative distinction existing across human geography. The article is organized on the basis of criticisms of positivist quantitative geography; it discusses both (early) attempts to articulate the ...

Spatial Patterns of Poverty in Central-Java Province [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
overty is one of the key issues in development program of Indonesia government. Poverty can be caused by geographical factors, namely the natural conditions, such as climate, density of forest, etc. Therefore, poverty problem

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Path, theme and narrative in open plan exhibition settings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Three arguments are made based on the analysis of science exhibitions. First, sufficiently refined techniques of spatial analysis allow us to model the impact oflayout upon visitors' paths, even in moderately sized open plans which allow almostrandom ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Estimating site-specific optimum air temperature and assessing its effect on the photosynthesis of grasslands in mid- to high-latitudes

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2020
The effect of air temperature on photosynthesis is important for the terrestrial carbon cycle. The optimum air temperature for photosynthesis is one of the major parameters in data-driven and process-based photosynthesis models that estimate the gross ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Car dependence in England and Wales: spatial inequalities and implications for a just transition

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Cities
This paper explores the nuances of car dependence in England and Wales by identifying four distinct archetypes that span structural and conscious forms. Employing the 2011 England and Wales Census, archetype prevalence is mapped across the study area at ...
