Microdisplays in spatial light modulators

Quantum Electronics, 2017
The characteristics of modern microdisplays based on liquid crystals and electromechanical micromirrors are considered. These displays, being spatial light modulators, can rapidly generate large optical data arrays to be recorded as holograms and used for data processing.

Photorefractive Spatial Light Modulator

SPIE Proceedings, 1990
A novel concept for implementing a high resolution spatial light modulator using a thin slab of photorefractive crystal is described. Experimental demonstration as well as an analysis of the operation and performance of the device are given.

Spatial light modulator for texture classification

Applied Optics, 1989
This paper describes a hybrid computer-optical processor devoted to the analysis of texture. Textures are displayed on a spatial light modulator and their power spectra are calculated optically by a Fourier optical technique. A video camera and a computer with a frame digitizer process the power spectra.

Photovoltaic spatial light modulator

Journal of Applied Physics, 1991
A novel concept for implementing a high-resolution spatial light modulator using a thin slab of photorefractive LiNbO3 crystal is described. This method uses the photovoltaic effect to impress phase information onto the crystal without the use of holography where coherent reference beams are required.

Spatial light modulators for projection displays

Applied Optics, 1997
Spatial light modulators (SLM's) consisting of a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) film and a Bi(12)SiO(20) photoconductor are discussed and demonstrated. This device, which uses light scattering in the PDLC film, has several advantages including no polarizer, a low optical loss, and video-rate operation.

Spatial Light Modulation

2009
In chapter 4 the so-called classical optical elements were introduced in some detail. Advanced scientific and technological optical systems require more sophisticated elements, in particular interface devices that provide a conversion between electronic and optical signals.

Phase calibration of spatially nonuniform spatial light modulators

Applied Optics, 2004
A new 512 x 512 pixel phase-only spatial light modulator (SLM) has been found to deviate from being flat by several wavelengths. Also, the retardation of the SLM relative to voltage varies across the device by as much as 0.25 wavelength. The birefringence of each pixel as a function of address voltage is measured from the intensity of the SLM between ...

Modulation diffraction efficiency of spatial light modulators

2011 10th Euro-American Workshop on Information Optics, 2011
We present an analysis of the efficiency of phase diffractive elements displayed onto spatial light modulators as a function of the device modulation. We show uses and strategies to compensate for the efficiency reduction in the presence of modulation defects like coupled amplitude modulation or non ideal phase modulation.

Operation of spatial light modulators in DUV light

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
The Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems (FhG-IMS) has developed spatial light modulators (SLM), which are used in a pattern generator for DUV laser mask writing developed by Micronic Laser Systems. They consist of micromirror arrays and allow massive parallel writing in UV mask writers. The chip discussed here consists of 2048
