Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

A low-voltage high-speed terahertz spatial light modulator using active metamaterial

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2016
An all solid-state metamaterial based terahertz (THz) spatial light modulator (SLM) is presented which uses high mobility 2DEG to manipulate the metamaterial resonant frequency (0.45 THz) leading to terahertz wave modulation.

Drive circuit for spatial light modulator with software preprocessing unit

open access: yes, 2010
A drive circuit, with software preprocessing unit, is developed for Multi-quantum-well (MQW) spatial light modulator (SLM). According to the characteristic values of different SLM reflective properties, software preprocessing unit fits the curve of ...

Interferometric Metrology Using Reprogrammable Binary Holograms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Interferometric methods for surface metrology have been widely used for many years due to their speed, accuracy and versatility. It is frequently necessary however to produce a known comparison reference surface to minimise the optical path difference ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Phase-engineered light patterns for ultracold atom experiments

open access: yes, 2015
We present advances in the use of Spatial Light Modulators for the manipulation of ultracold neutral atoms, by increasing the control over hologram calculation and the accuracy of experimental light patterns, and demonstrate multi-wavelength ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Considerations for a Micromirror Array Optimized for Compressive Sensing (VIS to MIR) in Space Applications

open access: yesJournal of Imaging
Earth observation (EO) is crucial for addressing environmental and societal challenges, but it struggles with revisit times and spatial resolution. The EU-funded SURPRISE project aims to improve EO capabilities by studying space instrumentation using ...
