Achieving spatial superresolution with engineered spatial modes
Physica Scripta, 2023Abstract Rayleigh’s criterion sets a limit on the minimum separation between two incoherent point sources to be resolved into distinct objects. However, superresolution techniques have been developed to circumvent Rayleigh’s criterion. These techniques mainly deal with single parameter estimation and require prior information about the ...

Six Spatial Modes Photonic Lanterns
Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2015Low-loss all-fiber mode selective photonic-lanterns capable of exciting six spatial fiber modes (4 LP modes) are demonstrated. Mode field profile characterization of photonic lanterns using both step and graded index fibers is presented.

Determining spatial modes of lasers with spatial coherence measurements
Applied Optics, 2000We explain a technique that extracts both the structure and the modal weights of spatial modes of lasers by analyzing the spatial coherence of the beam. This is the first time, to our knowledge, that an experimental method is being used to measure arbitrary forms of the spatial modes. We applied this method to an edge-emitting Fabry-Perot semiconductor

Monolithic mode separator for the first-order spatial mode of light field
Applied Optics, 2022We propose a monolithic mode separator (MS) for the first-order spatial mode of a light field. The principle of the MS is an asymmetric Mach–Zehnder interferometer, which consists of two non-polarizing beam splitters, a right-angle prism, and a pentagonal prism. These optics are glued together as a monolithic one.

Spatial mode sorter coronagraphs
14th Pacific Rim Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO PR 2020), 2020We discuss the use of spatial mode sorters as coronagraphs capable of operating near the fundamental limits at small inner working angles.

Spatial and Temporal Structure of Edge-Localized Modes
Physical Review Letters, 2004This Letter provides information on the spatial and temporal structure of periodic eruptions observed in magnetically confined laboratory fusion plasmas, called edge-localized modes (ELMs), and highlights similarities with solar eruptions. Taken together, the observations presented in this Letter provide strong evidence for ELMs being associated with a

Spatial Modes in Periodically Inhomogeneous Media
International Applied Mechanics, 2005The author discusses an approach to construction of wave modes in periodically inhomogeneous media. Quantitative results are analysed which were obtained for longitudinal waves across the structure in the first four transmitting zones for the medium formed by periodic repetition of two isotropic layers.

Sources with spatially sinusoidal modes
Optics Communications, 1991Abstract Optical sources whose cross-spectral density can be expanded into spatially sinusoidal modes are investigated. It is shown that the corresponding cross-spectral density can be constructed by means of a function of a single variable, called the mother function.

Spatial Entanglement and Efficient Coupling to Single Spatial Modes
Conference on Coherence and Quantum Optics, 2007Single-mode coupling efficiency of photons produced via spontaneous parametric down-conversion is limited by entanglement in the photons' spatial degree of freedom. Results are presented illustrating the relationship between pump divergence and the photons' spatial entanlglement.

Optimization of spatial aperture-sampled mode multiplexer for a few mode fiber
2012 IEEE 27th Convention of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in Israel, 2012An optimization procedure for spatial mode multiplexing from individual single mode fibers into a few mode fiber based on a spatial aperture sampling concept has been developed. By placing space-variant imaging elements between the single mode and few mode fibers, each beam aperture can be shaped for lower loss coupling and low mode dependent losses ...
