External cavity mode structure of a two-mode VCSEL subject to optical feedback

open access: yes, 2007
We consider a multi-transverse-mode vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) subject to optical feedback. The system is modeled by a partial differential equation for the spatial carrier population, which is coupled to delay differential equations ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Investigations of mode control in proton-implanted and oxide-confined VCSELs using PBGs: modelling and experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We have investigated theoretically the influence on transverse optical modes of a two-dimensional photonic crystal (PC) defect waveguide embedded into a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser.

Fire propagation model in the cerrado biome

open access: yesBiodiversidade Brasileira, 2019
To date, there are no model available for fire propagation in the Cerrado. Especially, for helping fire management and prevention, models need to run under near-real time conditions at a local scale.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Sorting of spatially incoherent optical vortex modes [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
AbstractCoherent optical vortices have promising applications in quantum and classical optical communication. They add new degrees of freedom to code information. In this context, to implement a tool enabling sorting of spatially multiplexed vortex states is fundamental.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Bifurcation analysis of a multi-transverse-mode VCSEL

open access: yes, 2008
We study the behaviour of a multi-transverse-mode vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser subject to optical feedback in which the optical modes are coupled through the external round-trip. Starting from a delayed partial differential equation description

Few-mode random fiber laser with a switchable oscillating spatial mode

open access: yesOptics Express, 2020
Random fiber lasers are of tremendous interest to diverse applications for optical fiber sensing, speckle-free imaging. To date, random fiber lasers with fundamental mode oscillation have been well developed. However, controllable oscillating spatial mode in random fiber lasers have not been reported yet.
