Interaction design issues for car navigation systems
We describe a study on the interaction design of in-car navigation systems. It focused on a commercial product. Critical incident analysis was performed based on natural use of the system by a usability analyst.

Navigation with Learned Spatial Affordances.
This paper describes how a cognitive architecture builds a spatial model and navigates from it without a map. Each constructed model is a collage of spatial affordances that describes how the environment has been sensed and traversed. The system exploits the evolving model while it directs an agent to explore the environment.

Light‐Actuated Fiber‐Climbing Inchworm Robot Toward Endoluminal Navigation
A kirigami‐inspired soft inchworm robot harnesses optical energy from a customized side‐emitting optical fiber, guaranteeing its propulsion along the fiber body. The wavelength‐selective responsiveness of dye‐functionalized liquid crystal elastomers and the application of temporal illumination patterns enable sequential control of robot components. The

An analysis of within-compound associations in spatial learning [PDF]
The nature of spatial learning has been argued to be qualitatively different from that of associative learning. Compelling evidence for this argument is provided by experiments showing a lack of typical associative cue competition between spatial and non-

Active Learning‐Accelerated Discovery of Fibrous Hydrogels with Tissue‐Mimetic Viscoelasticity
Active learning accelerates the design of fibrous hydrogels that mimic the viscoelasticity of native tissues. By integrating multi‐objective optimization and closed‐loop experimentation, this approach efficiently identifies optimal formulations from thousands of possibilities and decouples elasticity and viscosity. The resulting hydrogels offer tunable

Evaluation of a vibrotactile feedback device for spatial guidance
In the present study, a vibrotactile feedback device for spatial guidance was evaluated in a tracking task paradigm. Participants (N = 18) had to translate and rotate virtual objects according to the vibrotactile vs.

Machine Learning‐Assisted Inverse Design of Soft and Multifunctional Hybrid Liquid Metal Composites
A machine learning framework is presented for inverse design of synthesizable multifunctional composites containing both liquid metal and solid inclusions. By integrating physics‐based modeling, data‐driven prediction, and Bayesian optimization, the approach enables intelligent design of experiments to identify optimal compositions and realize these ...

Dual‐Mode Magnetic Elastomer for On‐Demand Motion and Degradation
A dual‐mode magnetic elastomer is introduced, enabling DC field‐driven programmable actuation and AC field‐driven magnetothermal degradation. GHz‐range magnetic fields generate ultrafast heating of magnetic nanoparticles that activates cleavage of the silicone elastomer matrix.
