A Spherical Model for Navigation and Spatial Reasoning
Proceedings., IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 1990In relation to mobile robot navigation, a spherical model of the perceptual space and its relation to the path space and configuration space are investigated. In particular, some results of spherical octree, optical flow, motion analysis, surface and depth information, navigation, and collision avoidance in the spherical model are discussed.

Spatial Cognition and Navigation
Proceedings of the Human Factors Society Annual Meeting, 1989This paper describes an experiment that provides data for the development of a cognitive model of pilot flight navigation. The experiment characterizes navigational awareness as the mental alignment of two frames of reference: 1) the ego centered reference frame that is established by the forward view out of the cockpit, and 2) the world centered ...

Relevance in Spatial Navigation and Communication
2012Humans are incapable of reproducing exact "copies" of reality when conceptualizing and communicating about space. Instead, those aspects of a spatial environment are represented that are relevant for a particular purpose. This paper addresses how cognition and communication of space are affected by relevance.
