Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

The role of microclimate in supporting peatlands as climate‐change refugia: A Central European perspective

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice
Central European peatlands are important biodiversity hotspots and potential climate‐change refugia, preserving post‐glacial relict species and offering insights into long‐term ecological functioning.

Engineering tandem VHHs to target different epitopes to enhance antibody‐dependent cell‐mediated cytotoxicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tandem VHH targeting distinct EGFR epitopes were engineered into a monovalent bispecific antibody (7D12‐EGA1‐Fc) with more potent ADCC without increasing affinity to EGFR. Structural modeling of 7D12‐EGA1‐Fc showed cross‐linking of separate EGFR domains to enhance CD16a engagement on NK cells.

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

Invasive neophytes alter ecological functions and services of riparian hardwood forests

open access: yesEcological Indicators
Riparian hardwood forests, now rare in Europe, occur in small patches within agricultural landscapes and are important biodiversity hotspots protected by the EU Habitats Directive and monitored.

Human impact in the Tatra Mountains

open access: yesCuadernos de Investigación Geográfica, 2019
Human activity is one of the three main drivers of environmental changes in the mountains. Its influence on mountain natural environment is characterized by great spatiotemporal diversity. In the Tatras human impact started in the 12th-13th centuries and

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Historical charcoal production as a factor in soil cover heterogeneity in a fluvioglacial landscape − A case study from northern Poland

open access: yesGeoderma
Although in situ wood thermal processing, as a common practice in European forests in historical times, has been confirmed in many studies, the environmental implications of that process remain poorly explored. In this study, we focused on evaluating the
