Spatial skills and number skills in preschool children: The moderating role of spatial anxiety

Cognition, 2022
Spatial ability is a strong and stable predictor of mathematical performance. However, of the three key components of spatial ability, spatial perception and spatial visualization have received less attention than mental rotation in relation to specific mathematical competencies of young children. Even less is known about the role of spatial anxiety in

Spatial skills

2020
Spatial skills represent an important part of our cognitive processes and have been widely studied in the last decades. The term "spatial skills" includes several abilities, some of them clearly sexually dimorphic. Thus men usually perform better than women in mental rotation and spatial orientation tasks, whereas women outperform men in object ...

Spatial Perception of Highly Skilled and Poorly Skilled Females

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1971
30 Ss were classified as highly skilled in a variety of motor activities and 30 Ss as poorly skilled. The 2 groups were administered the Rod-and-frame test, taken in a standing position and requiring nine different position settings of the rod and frame. The highly skilled performers were significantly more field independent than the poorly skilled Ss.

Augmenting spatial skills with mobile devices

Proceedings of the SIGCHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2012
Mobile devices are increasingly providing novel ways for users to engage with the spaces around them. However, there are few systematic studies of enhancing spatial ability with mobile devices, and applications such as turn-by-turn navigation systems have even been associated with a decline in spatial skills.

The Effects of Spatial Skills and Spatial Skills Training on Academic Performance in STEM Education

2015
Spatial ability plays an important but often unacknowledged role in achieving success in science, technology, engineering and mathematical (STEM) education. Many entering STEM disciplines have low spatial skills but these can be improved through a short training course. Accompanying improvements in academic grades and retention rates have been observed
