Adaptive control of PDEs with uncertain and spatially variable parameters
2007 American Control Conference, 2007This tutorial paper presents comprehensive new techniques for adaptive control of PDE systems. It overviews three design methods - the Lyapunov design, the passive design, and the swapping design and discusses tradeoffs between them. The basic ideas for each design are introduced through benchmark plants with constant unknown coefficients. This is then

Modeling the spatial control over point defect spin states via processing variables
Journal of Applied Physics, 2021Contemporary models that are used to search for solid-state point defects for quantum-information applications tend to focus on the defect’s intrinsic properties rather than the range of conditions in which they will form. In this work, a first-principles based multi-scale device model is used to explore how the conditions (i.e., growth temperature ...

Industrial implementation of spatial variability control by real-time SPC
SPIE Proceedings, 2016Advanced technology nodes require more and more information to get the wafer process well setup. The critical dimension of components decreases following Moore’s law. At the same time, the intra-wafer dispersion linked to the spatial non-uniformity of tool’s processes is not capable to decrease in the same proportions.

Variable Spatial Springs for Robot Control
2001This article presents a passive way to implement varying spatial springs. These are springs with controlling ports which can be used to modify their spatial rest length or spatial properties. These controlling ports have a dual structure which allows one to supervise the potential energy injected into the spring by varying its properties.

Spatial Variability of Nitrous Oxide Fluxes and Controlling Soil and Topographic Properties
Journal of Environmental Quality, 1997AbstractSpatial heterogeneity of nitrous oxide (N2O) flux was characterized along with various soil chemical, physical, and microtopographical properties to identify those determining flux in fertilized grassland in spring 1993 and in fertilized winter wheat in spring 1994. Measurements were made at random locations within regular grids.

Incorporation of weed spatial variability into the weed control decision‐making process
Weed Research, 1998Floral surveys were carried out on a field of 28 m × 100 m on the nodes of a regular 2 m × 2 m grid, using a rectangular sampling area of 25 cm × 30 cm. In total, 765 units were sampled, each one characterized by the spatial co‐ordinates and the number of seedlings of different weed species.

Physical forcing controls spatial variability in primary production in the Indian Ocean
Deep Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography, 2021Abstract In order to examine the spatial variability and controlling factors of primary production in the Indian Ocean, deck-incubation primary production (13C method) and hydrographic properties were measured at 25 locations during inter-monsoon period (April–May 2014).

Spatially variable insecticide applications for early season control of cotton insect pests
Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, 2009Our research has shown that cotton insect pests, specifically tarnished plant bugs, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois) (Heteroptera: Miridae) can be controlled early season in commercial cotton fields in Mississippi, USA, using spatially variable insecticide applications.
