The environment plays an important role in the movement of individuals and their associated genes among populations, which facilitates gene flow. Gene flow can help maintain the genetic diversity both within and between populations and counter the ...

Spatially varied flows with increasing discharge can be encountered in several hydraulic systems. The analysis of water surface profiles in such flow conditions is useful for the verification and design of these systems.

A sediment transport theory based on distortion-free-boundary nonhomogeneous fluid flows
Over the last 50 years several sediment transport models in coastal environments based on Shallow Water(SW) type models have been developed in the literature.

A Modified Perturbation Solution Procedure for Spatially-Varied Flows [PDF]
An improved perturbation solution procedure for solving the non-linear differential equation governing spatially-varied flows (SVF) in open channels is described. The procedure corrects for the non-uniformity in the cross-stream distribution of streamwise velocity that is characteristic of this type of flow.

Turbulence structure of non-uniform rough open channel flow
This paper focuses on the turbulence structure in a non-uniform, gradually varied, sub-critical open channel flow (OCF) on a rough bed. The flow field is analysed under accelerating, near-uniform and decelerating conditions.

Spatial and temporal variability of saturated areas during rainfall-runoff events
Spatially distributed hydrological model Mike SHE was used as a diagnostic tool to provide information on possible overland flow source areas in the mountain catchment of Jalovecký Creek (area 22.2 km2, elevation range 820–2178 m a.s.l.) during different

Artificial ground freezing (AGF) technology has been commonly applied in tunnel construction. Its primary goal is to create a frozen wall around the tunnel profile as a hydraulic barrier and temporary support, but it is inevitably affected by two natural

Boundary shear stress in spatially varied flow with increasing discharge
The distribution of the wall shear stress on the bed and sidewalls of an open channel receiving lateral inflow was obtained from experimental measurements of the distribution of the velocity in the viscous sublayer using a laser doppler velocimeter.

Within-species hybrid incompatibility can arise when combinations of alleles at more than one locus have low fitness but where possession of one of those alleles has little or no fitness consequence for the carriers.

Effect of microchannel aspect ratio on residence time distributions and the axial dispersion coefficient [PDF]
The effect of microchannel aspect ratio (channel depth/channel width) on residence time distributions and the axial dispersion coefficient have been investigated for Newtonian and shear thinning non-Newtonian flow using computational fluid dynamics.
