Is cod lekking or a promiscuous group spawner?

Fish and Fisheries, 2000
The mating system of cod (Gadus morhua) has been described as promiscuous with few options for exercising mate choice. We, on the other hand, argue that cod fulfil the prerequisites of a conventional lekking mating system. A review of papers on cod mating behaviour suggests that mature males aggregate and possibly defend small territories on the ...

Liver Changes Related to Oocyte Growth in Roach, a Single Spawner Fish, and in Bleak and White Bream, Two Multiple Spawner Fish

International Review of Hydrobiology, 2003
AbstractThe objectives of this study were to compare the seasonal hepatic activity and to evaluate whether this activity was related to the dynamics of oocyte recruitment in three cyprinids from the River Meuse (Belgium): the roach Rutilus rutilus as a single spawner, and the bleak Alburnus alburnus and the white bream Blicca bjoerkna as multiple ...

Harvest, Transport of Spawners, Prophylaxis

2016
Within this chapter the theoretical background, as well as detailed practical advices of collection of the spawners of Eurasian perch from lakes and from earthen ponds are discussed. A special attention is paid to the time of collection and additionally, the methods of transportation as well as basic prophylactic methods are described.

Object Spawner Tool Using EditorTool and ScriptableObject

2021
In this chapter, you are going to create a little object spawner editor tool to learn how editor scripting with IMGUI can be applied in a practical scenario and to explore some advanced editor topics such as EditorTool and ScriptableObject in this context.

Performance of Spawner Survey Techniques at Low Abundance Levels

North American Journal of Fisheries Management, 2010
Abstract Population monitoring is essential to know whether coastal California's Endangered Species Act–listed Chinook salmon Oncorhynchus tshawytscha, coho salmon O. kisutch, and steelhead O. mykiss stocks are progressing toward recovery.

High variability in spawner–recruit data hampers learning

Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 2001
Variability is a formidable opponent of experimental management aimed at detecting spawner–recruit (SR) effects in a short time frame. I fitted Ricker SR models to 214 different SR data sets and found that high residual error variability was common. For each of these data sets, in an a priori power analysis, I estimated the power of experiments that ...

Reproductive biology of the rosylip sculpin, an intertidal spawner

Journal of Fish Biology, 2004
Rosylip sculpin Ascelichthys rhodorus spawned in the intertidal during the winter in the north‐eastern Pacific. Large numbers of males typically congregated at spawning sites, where females deposited clutches. The mating system of this species was external fertilization and group spawning at specific oviposition sites under boulders in the intertidal ...

Hydration of female spawners of carps during hypophysation

Hydrobiologia, 1980
Those female major carps which gained weight after injection of pituitary extract to induce spawning, ovulated more successfully than those which did not. In practice, therefore, fishes which lose weight upto the second of the two injections customarily given, may not be injected further. The gain in weight is caused by induced hydration of the spawner.

Using redd counts to estimate salmonids spawner abundances: A Bayesian modelling approach

Fisheries Research, 2010
Redd (nest) counts are widely used for monitoring salmonid populations. Because of their relative low cost, redd counts allow a good spatial coverage over a long period of time. In this paper we develop a generic Bayesian hierarchical model relating Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L.

Optimum escapement computed using Ricker's spawner-recruit curve

Fisheries Research, 1994
Abstract The principal use of Ricker's curve is to predict the optimum number of fish allowed to escape the fishery and spawn. I suggest that the error-structure for Ricker's curve is often approximate lognormal recruitment, multiplicative normal measurement error for escapement, and additive normal measurement error for yield. Fitting Ricker's curve
