Abstract Fecundity of 26 specimens of Sarotherodon galilaeus cultured in a small concrete pond, 6.3 × 1.4 × 1.6 m, was determined by the “whole-count” method. The fish were not fed artificially but depended on natural phytoplankton growth, mainly Chlorococcus and Chlorella , for food.

Spawning frequency was determined for the first time for the South African anchovy Engraulis capensis using the incidence of females with one-day-old post-ovulatory follicles. Daily spawning frequency attained values of 15, 12, 10, 9,12 and 11% during November of 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990 respectively.

Goosefish Lophius americanus fecundity and spawning frequency, with implications for population reproductive potential

To improve knowledge of goosefish Lophius americanus' reproductive biology, females were collected during 2009–2012 from the Mid‐Atlantic Bight shelf region of the U.S. east coast. Batch fecundity increased with total length (LT), from 229 100 to 2 243 300 mature oocytes per female (LT range: 55·5–112 cm; n = 54).

Abstract Eleven pairs of bluntnose minnows Pimephales notatus produced from 7 to 19 clutches of eggs between May 27 and August 28. Clutches ranged in size from 5 to 547 eggs. Average clutch size ranged from 93 to 239. The total number of eggs spawned per pair ranged from 1,112 to 4,195 (mean = 2,396).
