Spawning frequency in the eastern Australian river garfish, Hyporhamphus regularis ardelio (Hemiramphidae)

Environmental Biology of Fishes, 2012
Patterns in the timing of spawning of the eastern Australian river garfish Hyporhamphus regularis ardelio were investigated by sampling fish throughout 24 h during their peak spawning period. Patterns in gonadosomatic indices, the presence of hydrated oocytes and post-ovulatory follicles in histological ovary sections, together with previously ...

The reproductive cycle and its control; frequency of spawning and fecundity in Blennius pholis L.

Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, 1977
Abstract Spawning in Blennius pholis L. is seasonal occurring from March to July in the population of the South Gower beaches. There is evidence that both temperature and daylength regulate the reproductive cycle. Cyclical changes in the ovary during the reproductive cycle are studied by analysis of the changing size frequency distribution of the ...

Spawning Frequency and Fecundity of Satinfin Shiner (Notropis analostanus)—A Fractional, Crevice Spawner

Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 1978
Abstract Satinfin shiners (Notropis analostanus) proved to be fractional spawners and pairs of them in outdoor wading pools spawned up to 11 times between June 3 and August 11, 1977 (totals 381 to 3,268 eggs per pair). They released from 6 to 634 eggs per fish per session at intervals of 3 to 31 days (mean 7.6 days; modes 5 and 8 days).

Spawning Frequency of Trachurus mediterraneus (Carangidae) in The Sea of Marmara

2014
In this study the spawning frequency of Trachurus mediterraneus was estimated for the first time in the Mediterranean basin. The presence of the late-migratory nucleus stage oocytes and post ovulatory follicles (POFs) in the same ovaries were observed continuously during the sampling period.

Spawning frequency, growth and mortality of Mytilus edulis larvae, exposed to copper and diesel oil

Aquatic Toxicology, 1991
Abstract Mature Mytilus edulis were exposed to copper (concentration range 1–40 μg l ) and microencapsulated diesel oil (concentration range 200–5,000 μg l ) for 30 days and induced to spawn. EC 50 values for spawning frequency were approximately 2 μg l for copper and 800 μg l for diesel oil.

Least Chub Reproduction: Effects of Density, Sex Ratio, and Spawning Substrate Transfer Frequency

North American Journal of Aquaculture, 2007
Abstract The least chub Iotichthys phlegethontis, a small cyprinid endemic to Bonneville Basin, Utah, is at risk of becoming a threatened species in Utah. Captive propagation has become necessary to preserve genetically distinct populations and to produce specimens for reintroduction.

Cohort Dynamics of Summer‐Spawned Bluefish as Determined by Length‐Frequency and Otolith Microstructure Analyses

Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 2006
AbstractElucidating recruitment processes in marine fish is difficult when species occupy distinct habitats at different ontogenetic stages and when multiple cohorts determine year‐class strength. Currently, there is insufficient information on the cohort dynamics of the early life history stages of summer‐spawned bluefish Pomatomus saltatrix to ...

XIII.—The Relation of Sea-Growth and Spawning Frequency in Salmo salar

Proceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, 1926
The seasons at which the Atlantic salmon ascends rivers differ to a considerable extent in different countries. In northern Norway and eastern Canada the severe winter conditions compel salmon to ascend from the sea only after the rivers have become free from ice.

Duration, Frequency And Timing Of Sprat Spawning In The Central Baltic: An Analysis Based On Gonadal Maturity.

2001
No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author. The duration, frequency and peak of sprat spawning in the 1999 spawning season are described. Spatial and year to year variations in the timing of spawning were analysed utilising maturity data obtained in June 1999 in ICES Sub-divisions 25, 26 and 27 / 28, respectively in April 1995 ...

Influence of the Stimuli Provided by the Male Cichlid Fish, Tilapia macrocephala, on the Spawning Frequency of the Female

Physiological Zoology, 1945
In two recent reviews of this subject (Hartman, 1939; Marshall, 1942) this concept of the ovulatory cycle's being influenced by sexual stimuli arising from behavioral relations between the male and female (or sometimes between two females) has been extended to include the lower vertebrates. However, the evidence presented is rather meager.
