Sound from spawning cod at their spawning grounds [PDF]

open access: yesICES Journal of Marine Science, 1999
Sound was recorded at five stations at and near the main spawning grounds of the northeast Arctic cod (Gadus morhua L.) off the Lofoten Islands, Norway. Recordings were carried out during April 1997 when large numbers of cod aggregated to spawn, and were repeated in September when the cod were no longer spawning and, in fact, most had emigrated.

Spawning grounds of whiting ( Merlangius merlangus )

open access: yesFisheries Research, 2017
Targeted fishing and marine developments can alter the suitability of essential habitat such as spawning areas. Past studies of North Sea whiting (Merlangius merlangus) distribution have led to differing views about the comparative importance of extrinsic and intrinsic constraints on adult distribution in the North Sea.

Ommastrephid squid spawning in the North Sea: oceanography, climate change and species range expansion

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2021
The lesser flying squid (Todaropsis eblanae) and the shortfin squid (Illex coindetii) are two abundant ommastrephids of the northeast Atlantic. Spawning ground existence was inferred from the captures of mature, mated females in summer 2016–2019 and ...

Experimental determination of residence time for sockeye salmon spawners on spawning grounds in the littoral zone of Lake Nachikinskoye (Kamchatka)

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2021
Residence time of late-race sockeye spawners on spawning grounds located in the littoral zone of Lake Nachikinskoye in southern Kamchatka is determined directly using 11 series of tagging and tracking of tags conducted in 2018 and 2020 (700 tagged ...

Climate change shifts the spawning ground northward and extends the spawning period of chub mackerel in the western North Pacific

open access: yesMarine Ecology Progress Series, 2019
Despite extensive studies of phenological shifts associated with climate change, a few unresolved issues remain. In particular, little is known about the phenological shifts of marine organisms, and simultaneous evaluations of phenological and ...
