Functional specialization of antigen presenting cells in the gastrointestinal tract

Current Opinion in Immunology, 2010
Recent advances have highlighted that antigen presentation in the gastrointestinal tract is carried out by different specialized immune and non-immune cells. This is required in order to achieve tolerance towards self and non-self harmless antigens and immunity towards pathogenic microorganisms.

Ontogeny and Functional Specialization of Dendritic Cells in Human and Mouse

2013
Dendritic cells (DCs) are a heterogeneous group of functionally specialized antigen-presenting cells that initiate and orchestrate immune responses. Our understanding of DC immunobiology has been largely shaped by research using murine models.

Long-term culture of pancreatic islet cells with special reference to the β-cell function

In Vitro, 1979
Islet cells of adult rat pancreas, dissociated with EDTA-Dispase, were cultivated in Microtest wells for over 2 months. In our cultures, islet cells were free-floating and cohered with each other to reorganize histotypic aggregates resembling the nondissociated islets.

The shifting shape and functional specializations of the cell cycle during lineage development

WIREs Mechanisms of Disease, 2020
AbstractEssentially all cell cycling in multicellular organisms in vivo takes place in the context of lineage differentiation. This notwithstanding, the regulation of the cell cycle is often assumed to be generic, independent of tissue or developmental stage.

Evolution of mechanisms of Ca2+-signalization. Role of Ca2+ in regulation of specialized cell functions

open access: closedJournal of Evolutionary Biochemistry and Physiology, 2013
The review considers peculiarities of Ca(2+)-signalization in electroexcitable cells of the higher eukaryotes. The light has been thrown upon the problems of Ca(2+)-dependent mechanisms of regulation of muscle contractility and of neuronal synaptic plasticity in the higher vertebrate animals.

Functional Specialization of Membrane-Bound Ribosomes in Eukaryotic Cells

1976
Ultrastructural studies have revealed a very high degree of macromolecular organization in eukaryotic cells. The plasma membrane, the nuclear envelope, and the membranes of cytoplasmic organelles create subcellular compartments with specific functions and macromolecular composition. The limiting membranes of these compartments and the structures within

Semaphorin 6A in Retinal Ganglion Cells Regulates Functional Specialization of the Inner Retina

2023
ABSTRACTTo form functional circuits, neurons must settle in their appropriate cellular locations and then project and elaborate neurites to contact their target synaptic neuropils. Laminar organization within the vertebrate retinal inner plexiform layer (IPL) facilitates pre- and postsynaptic neurite targeting, yet, the precise mechanisms underlying ...

Receptivity is a polarity dependent special function of hormonally regulated uterine epithelial cells

Microscopy Research and Technique, 1993
AbstractUseful knowledge of the mechanisms which regulate ovoreceptivity and implantation remains elusive in spite of increasing efforts to apply the technology of biochemistry and to a lesser extent, cellular and molecular biology to the analysis of the problem.

[Is "fibroblast" a specialized cell or a functional condition of mesenchymal cells derivatives?].

Tsitologiia, 2010
The debatable article is devoted to the analysis of consecutive changes of the notion about the origin, migration, morphofunctional heterogeneity, differentiation and proliferative potential of the basic cells of a connective tissue--fibroblasts. Despite of a plenty of an actual material on this section of cellular biology, till now there is no uniform
