ABSTRACT Engineering living matter has great clinical potential to deliver functional replacement organs. However, clinical translation remains hampered by the current inability to maintain viability of clinically relevant‐sized constructs. During the pre‐vascular phase, implants rely on nutrient diffusion for survival, which is insufficient at ...

(1) Background: The identification of Tropidothorax cruciger and T. sinensis is often complicated by the presence of the “intermediate form”. Due to the lack of molecular data, the taxonomic status of the “intermediate form” and the species boundaries ...

Inferring Species Trees Directly from Biallelic Genetic Markers: Bypassing Gene Trees in a Full Coalescent Analysis [PDF]
The multi-species coalescent provides an elegant theoretical framework for estimating species trees and species demographics from genetic markers. Practical applications of the multi-species coalescent model are, however, limited by the need to integrate

Molecular species delimitation methods recover most song‐delimited cicada species in the European Cicadetta montana complex [PDF]
AbstractMolecular species delimitation is increasingly being used to discover and illuminate species level diversity, and a number of methods have been developed. Here, we compare the ability of two molecular species delimitation methods to recover song‐delimited species in the Cicadetta montana cryptic species complex throughout Europe.

s‐Orbital Mediated Metavalent Bonding Enables State‐Of‐The‐Art n‐Type AgBiSe2 Thermoelectrics
Metavalent bonding (MVB) underpins the exceptional property portfolio of chalcogenides. Typical MVB solids are mainly found in p‐bonded systems. This work reveals that MVB can also be formed with s‐p orbital interactions upon forming a single‐electron σ‐bond, as exemplified in AgBiSe2.

Biosystematic and fingerprinting study of the genus Lallemantia based on SCoT and REMAP markers
Lallemantia is a medicinally important plant in the world. Due to interspecific hybridization and horizontal gene transfer, spices relationship and delimitation on the genus Lallemantia is difficult based on different molecular markers.

Species Delimitation: New Approaches for Discovering Diversity [PDF]
Systematics can be considered to have two major goals: (1) to discover and describe species and (2) to determine the phylogenetic relationships of these species. But even a quick perusal of titles in Systematic Biology through out most of its 15-year history will confirm an obvious fact: most articles focus on reconstructing phylogenies and on using ...

The repair and regeneration of brain tissue faces both biological and technical challenges. Injectable bioscaffolds offer new opportunities to stimulate tissue regrowth in the brain by recruiting neural stem cells. Here, the translational issues are reviewed that need to be address to advance this promising new therapeutic approach from the bench to ...

Rare coral under the genomic microscope: timing and relationships among Hawaiian Montipora [PDF]
Background Evolutionary patterns of scleractinian (stony) corals are difficult to infer given the existence of few diagnostic characters and pervasive phenotypic plasticity.
