SPECIES IDENTIFICATION GUIDE

open access: yes, 2020
The overall objective of the project NAT2CARE - Mobilisation of citizenship for the recover and the conservation of the Natura 2000 transboundary areas – is to improve the status and the presence of the biodiversity within the project partners’ Natura 2000 areas (the Julian Prealps Nature Park, the Triglav National implementing Natura 2000 habitat and ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Mitochondrial Genome Diversity of Schistura McClelland, 1838 (Teleostei, Nemacheilidae)

open access: yesDiversity
The inconsistency between traditional morphological taxonomy and molecular phylogenetic data is a major issue that puzzles the study of fish classification and evolution.

PCR-RFLP Using BseDI Enzyme for Pork Authentication in Sausage and Nugget Products [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) using BseDI restriction enzyme had been applied for identifying the presence of pork in processed meat (beef sausage and chicken nugget) including before and after frying ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Microgastrinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) parasitizing Epirrita autumnata (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) larvae in Fennoscandia with description of Cotesia autumnatae Shaw, sp. n. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The microgastrine subset of hymenopteran parasitoids of the geometrid Epirrita autumnata is investigated in Fennoscandia. Ecology, including population dynamics, of the moth has been intensively studied in northern and mountainous Finland, Norway and ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Description of the previously unknown male of Systropha (Austrosystropha) macronasuta (Hymenoptera: Halictidae: Rophitinae) from Kenya [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We describe and illustrate for the first time the previously unknown male of Systropha (Austrosystropha) macronasuta Strand.  We provide a species diagnosis and modified couplets of the recent identification key to allow for easy identification of this ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...
