Label-free measurement of the yeast short chain TAG lipase activity by ESI-MS after one-step esterification

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2017
Triacylglycerol (TAG) lipases hydrolyze ester bonds in TAG and release diacylglycerol (DAG), monoacylglycerol (MAG), and FA. We present a one-step chemical derivatization method for label-free quantification of a mixture of TAG, DAG, and MAG following ...

Anti-bacterial activity of lysozyme in pitching yeast and effect of lysozyme on yeast fermentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Lysozyme has antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria and has no activity against yeast. As such, lysozyme can be used for the specific inhibition of beer spoilage bacteria.

Tissue-Specific Oncogenic Activity of KRASA146T.

open access: yesCancer Discovery, 2019
KRAS is the most frequently mutated oncogene. The incidence of specific KRAS alleles varies between cancers from different sites, but it is unclear whether allelic selection results from biological selection for specific mutant KRAS proteins.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Improvement of the Enzyme Performance of Trypsin via Adsorption in Mesoporous Silica SBA-15: Hydrolysis of BAPNA

open access: yesMolecules, 2013
The enzymatic performance of trypsin in hydrolysis of N-α-benzoyl-DL-arginine-4-nitroanilide (BAPNA) was improved by adsorption on Santa Barbara Amorphous (SBA)-15 mesoporous silica.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Determination of the impurities concentration in tungsten, molybdenum, tin, and tellurium targets using neutron activation analysis techniques [PDF]

open access: yesЯдерна фізика та енергетика, 2009
The fast and k0-neutron activation analysis (k0-NAA)methods were used to investigate the radioimpurities concentration of 124Sb, 134Cs, 60Co, 87Rb, 182Ta, 233Pa, 65Zn, 56Fe, 110mAg, 51Cr, 95Zr, 75Se and 114mIn in the target samples WO3, MoO3, SnO2 and ...

Epigenetics and chromatin remodeling play a role in lung disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Epigenetics is defined as heritable changes that affect gene expression without altering the DNA sequence. Epigenetic regulation of gene expression is facilitated through different mechanisms such as DNA methylation, histone modifications and RNA ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...
