Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Preliminary study on the diagnostic value of urine cell glucose metabolism detection for male urothelial carcinoma [PDF]
This study assessed the potential of urine abnormal glycolytic metabolism detection versus urine cytology in diagnosing male urothelial carcinoma, using pathological results as the gold standard.

RNA Binding: Getting Specific about Specificity [PDF]
Sequence-specific nucleic acid binding proteins do not recognize one sequence out of all possibilities; rather, they bind to many sequences with a range of affinities. In this issue of Cell Chemical Biology, Lin et al. (2016), describe the entire landscape of affinities between different RNA molecules and an RNA-binding protein, thus providing a ...

In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

Acupuncture: Specific and Non-Specific Effects [PDF]
As an alternative and complement to conventional or allopathic medicine, acupuncture has become a firmly established therapy in many countries. Despite this wide acceptance, the question of how acupuncture works, or whether it works at all, remains the subject of lively debate. One problem in the discussion of acupuncture and its possible mechanisms is

Interspecies reactivity and intraspecies specificity of antilymphoid globulin [PDF]
Horse antihuman and antidog antilymphocyte globulins were shown to possess leukoagglutinating antibodies when tested against the white cells from a number of other divergent species.

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...
