QUANTIFYING SPECTRAL FEATURES OF TYPE Ia SUPERNOVAE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We introduce a new technique to quantify highly structured spectra for which the definition of continua or spectral features in the observed flux spectra is difficult.

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Use spectral derivatives for estimating canopy water content

open access: yes, 2010
Hyperspectral remote sensing has demonstrated great potential for accurate retrieval of canopy water content (CWC). This CWC is defined by the product of the leaf equivalent water thickness (EWT) and the leaf area index (LAI).

Spectral Feature Vectors for Graph Clustering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This paper investigates whether vectors of graph-spectral features can be used for the purposes of graph-clustering. We commence from the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the adjacency matrix. Each of the leading eigenmodes represents a cluster of nodes and is mapped to a component of a feature vector.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Phoneme-based Spectral Voice Conversion Using Temporal Decomposition and Gaussian Mixture Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In state-of-the-art voice conversion systems, GMM-based voice conversion methods are regarded as some of the best systems. However, the quality of converted speech is still far from natural. There are three main reasons for the degradation of the quality

Spectral Superposition: A Theory of Feature Geometry

open access: yesCoRR
Neural networks represent more features than they have dimensions via superposition, forcing features to share representational space. Current methods decompose activations into sparse linear features but discard geometric structure. We develop a theory for studying the geometric structre of features by analyzing the spectra (eigenvalues, eigenspaces ...

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Binary Representations of Fingerprint Spectral Minutiae Features [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A fixed-length binary representation of a fingerprint has the advantages of a fast operation and a small template storage. For many biometric template protection schemes, a binary string is also required as input.
