Next generation spectroscopic analysis for large samples of massive stars [PDF]

open access: yesProc. IAU 18 (2022) 145-150, 2022
Upcoming large-scale spectroscopic surveys such as WEAVE and 4MOST will provide thousands of spectra of massive stars, which need to be analysed in an efficient and homogeneous way. Studies on massive stars are usually based on samples of a few hundred objects which pushes current spectroscopic analysis tools to their limits because visual inspection ...

DOUBLE-LINED SPECTROSCOPIC BINARY STARS IN THE RAVE SURVEY [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2010
We devise a new method for the detection of double-lined binary stars in a sample of the Radial Velocity Experiment (RAVE) survey spectra. The method is both tested against extensive simulations based on synthetic spectra, and compared to direct visual inspection of all RAVE spectra.

WIYN Open Cluster Study. LXXXVII. Hubble Space Telescope Ultraviolet Detection of Hot White Dwarf Companions to Blue Lurkers in M67

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We present the results of our Hubble Space Telescope far-ultraviolet survey of the blue lurkers (BLs) in M67. We find evidence for two white dwarf (WD) companions among the BLs that are indicative of mass transfer from an evolved companion, one in WOCS ...

Searching for Double-line Spectroscopic Binaries in the LAMOST Medium-resolution Spectroscopic Survey with Deep Learning

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2023
Double-line spectroscopic binaries (SB2s) are a vital class of spectroscopic binaries for studying star formation and evolution. Searching for SB2s has been a hot topic in astronomy.

A Spectroscopic Study of Field and Runaway OB Stars [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophys.J.655:473-483,2007, 2006
Identifying binaries among runaway O- and B-type stars offers valuable insight into the evolution of open clusters and close binary stars. Here we present a spectroscopic investigation of 12 known or suspected binaries among field and runaway OB stars.

Statistical properties of spectroscopic binary stars [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysics and Space Science, 1992
As part of a study of the mass-ratio distribution of spectroscopic binary stars, the statistical properties of the systems in theEighth Catalogue of the Orbital Elements of Spectroscopic Binary Stars, compiled by Battenet al. (1989), are investigated. Histograms are presented of the distributions of various parameters of the systems in the catalogue as

Verification of Gaia Data Release 3 Single-lined Spectroscopic Binary Solutions With Three Transiting Low-mass Secondaries

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
While secondary mass inferences based on single-lined spectroscopic binary (SB1) solutions are subject to $\sin i$ degeneracies, this degeneracy can be lifted through the observations of eclipses.

The New Version of the Binary Star Database (BDB)

open access: yesOpen Astronomy, 2012
The Binary star database contains data on about 100 000 stellar systems of multiplicity 2 to 22, taken from a large variety of published catalogues for all types of binary stars: visual, orbital, astrometric, interferometric, spectroscopic, photometric ...

Discovery of the Exceptionally Short Period Ultracool Dwarf Binary LP 413-53AB

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
We report the detection of large-amplitude, rapid radial velocity (RV) variations and line-splitting in high-resolution Keck/NIRSPEC spectra of the M9 dwarf LP 413-53. We attribute these features to binary motion.

A Spectroscopic Survey for Binary Stars in the Globular Cluster NGC 5053 [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 1996
We carried out a radial velocity survey for spectroscopic binaries in the low density globular cluster NGC5053. Our sample contains a total of 77 cluster member giant and subgiant stars with visual magnitudes of 14.5-18.6. Of these 77 stars, 66 stars have on average of 3-4 measurements with a total of 236 velocities.
