Phases of New Physics in the BAO Spectrum

open access: yes, 2017
We show that the phase of the spectrum of baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) is immune to the effects of nonlinear evolution. This suggests that any new physics that contributes to the initial phase of the BAO spectrum, such as extra light species in the

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Tower of states and the entanglement spectrum in a coplanar antiferromagnet

open access: yes, 2015
We extend the analytical arguments of Metlitski and Grover (arXiv:1112.5166) to compute the entanglement spectrum and entanglement entropy of coplanar antiferromagnets with SO(3) order parameter symmetry.

Feynman integrals as connecting component between radio еngineering, fractal paradigm and quantum mechanics

open access: yesФизика волновых процессов и радиотехнические системы, 2015
Analysing Feynman integral for one-dimensional harmonic oscillator we have found that it is possible to introduce quasiparticle of radio systems. This quasiparticle we have called radion.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Local spectrum and Kaplansky's theorem on algebraic operators

open access: yes, 1998
Using elementary arguments we improve former results of P. Vrbová concerning local spectrum.

Suitability of vaccinia virus and bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) for determining activities of three commonly-used alcohol-based hand rubs against enveloped viruses

open access: yes, 2007
Background A procedure for including activity against enveloped viruses in the post-contamination treatment of hands has been recommended, but so far no European standard is available to implement it.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Consciousness as a Spectrum : From Animal to Human Minds, and Beyond?

open access: yes, 2021
Consciousness is one of the most popular concepts within philosophy of mind and science overall. It is also in many regards a confused concept and many scholars and laymen alike do not always agree what consciousness as a term involves.

The acceptability of arguments in favour of and against the Iraq War [PDF]

open access: yesConflict & Communication Online, 2005
This paper reports on research based on an experimental questionnaire designed using the logic and the basic structure of the Moral Judgment Test (MJT) by Lind (1982). The study aims at understanding how respondents' acceptance of political arguments may
