Performance Evaluation of The Speaker-Independent HMM-based Speech Synthesis System "HTS-2007" for the Blizzard Challenge 2007 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper describes a speaker-independent/adaptive HMM-based speech synthesis system developed for the Blizzard Challenge 2007. The new system, named "HTS-2007", employs speaker adaptation (CSMAPLR+MAP), feature-space adaptive training, mixed-gender ...

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Research on a Mongolian Text to Speech Model Based on Ghost and ILPCnet

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The core challenge of speech synthesis technology is how to convert text information into an audible audio form to meet the needs of users. In recent years, the quality of speech synthesis based on end-to-end speech synthesis models has been ...

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Speech Synthesis and Uncanny Valley [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The paper discusses a hypothesis relating high quality text-to-speech (TTS) synthesis in spoken dialogue systems with the concept of “uncanny valley”. It introduces a “Wizard-of-Oz” experiment with 30 volunteers engaged in conversations with two synthetic voices of different naturalness.

Utilising Spontaneous Conversational Speech in HMM-Based Speech Synthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Spontaneous conversational speech has many characteristics that are currently not well modelled in unit selection and HMM-based speech synthesis. But in order to build synthetic voices more suitable for interaction we need data that exhibits more ...

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Evaluating synthesized speech intelligibility in noise [PDF]

open access: yesJASA Express Letters
Humans can modify their speech to improve intelligibility in noisy environments. With the advancement of speech synthesis technology, machines may also synthesize voices that remain highly intelligible in noise condition.

Wavelets for intonation modeling in HMM speech synthesis

open access: yes, 2013
The pitch contour in speech contains information about different linguistic units at several distinct temporal scales. At the finest level, the microprosodic cues are purely segmental in nature, whereas in the coarser time scales, lexical tones, word ...
