The association between ambient temperature and sperm quality in Wuhan, China

open access: yesEnvironmental Health, 2020
Background Few epidemiological investigations have focused on the influence of environmental temperature on human sperm quality. Here, we evaluated the potential association between ambient temperature and human sperm quality in Wuhan, China, and ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Hydrodynamic propulsion of human sperm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The detailed fluid mechanics of sperm propulsion are fundamental to our understanding of reproduction. In this paper, we aim to model a human sperm swimming in a microscope slide chamber.

Effects of N-acetyl-cysteine supplementation on sperm quality, chromatin integrity and level of oxidative stress in infertile men

open access: yesReproductive Biology and Endocrinology, 2019
BackgroundInfertile men have higher levels of semen reactive oxygen species (ROS) than fertile men. High levels of semen ROS can cause sperm dysfunction, sperm DNA damage and reduced male reproductive potential.

ATZ‐1 promotes DNA replication efficiency to maintain normal meiotic function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Absence of ATZ‐1 interferes with meiotic DNA replication and cell cycle function via CHK‐1. This causes downstream defects associated with DNA damage and genomic integrity. Taken together, this study suggests that ATZ‐1 influences DNA replication efficiency and cell cycle function to maintain normal meiotic function.

Solea senegalensis sperm cryopreservation: New insights on sperm quality

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2017
Cryopreservation of Senegalese sole sperm can represent an alternative to overcome some reproductive problems of this species. However, it is important to guarantee the safe use of cryopreserved sperm by selecting an appropriate protocol according to a high demand quality need to be ensured.

Identification of small non-coding RNAs as sperm quality biomarkers for in vitro fertilization

open access: yesCell Discovery, 2019
Dear Editor, In recent decades, assisted reproduction technology (ART) has been widely used to treat human infertility. However, only approximately 30% of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles result in pregnancy.

Cryoprotective effect of melatonin supplementation on post-thawed rooster sperm quality.

open access: yesAnimal Reproduction Science, 2020
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and free radicals are one of the major detrimental factors that can negatively affect the quality of sperm during cryopreservation. Melatonin is an effective antioxidant and free radical scavenger in various cells.

Purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 for phase separation studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe detailed protocols for the purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 (MpARF2). This protein is fused to an MBP solubility tag and an mNG fluorescent tag and is purified from Escherichia coli. The presented procedures make it possible to study MpARF2 assemblies, which could arise from phase separation ...
