Head and flagella subcompartmental proteomic analysis of human spermatozoa
Proteomics, 2013Subcellular proteomics not only deepens our knowledge of what proteins are present within cells, but also opens our understanding as to where those proteins reside.

Sorbitol Dehydrogenase in Spermatozoa
Nature, 1958IT has been shown previously that the addition of sorbitol to actively respiring suspensions of washed, motile ram spermatozoa causes an increase in the consumption of oxygen, accompanied by an oxidative conversion of sorbitol to fructose and followed by the aerobic glycolytic breakdown of fructose to lactic acid1.

The Detection of Spermatozoa in the Mouth
Journal of the Forensic Science Society, 1986Abstract A survey of cases involving oral intercourse has been carried out to find whether semen is more likely to be detected on mouth swabs or in saliva samples. In a total of 61 cases, spermatozoa were found on only 10 of the mouth swabs but were present in 22 of the saliva samples.

Calcium channels in the development, maturation, and function of spermatozoa.
Physiological Reviews, 2011A proper dialogue between spermatozoa and the egg is essential for conception of a new individual in sexually reproducing animals. Ca(2+) is crucial in orchestrating this unique event leading to a new life.

Cryopreservation of Avian Spermatozoa
2003This chapter describes a simple system for cryopreservation of avian spermatozoa as pellets, formed by dropping volumes of sperm suspension directly into liquid nitrogen with dimethylacetamide as cryoprotectant. The method originates from the group at the Research Institute of Farm Animal Breeding and Genetics at St. Petersburg-Pushkin and is described

Abstract A total of 450 infertile women were studied for sperm antibody activity in cervical mucus extracts in vitro over a three year period. Most of the patients had unexplained infertility. Twelve women, or 2.7 per cent, were found to have the sperm-agglutination phenomenon in the cervical mucus extract by means of a microscale test (MIS-agg). This

Publisher Summary The chapter describes the structures and functions of sea urchin spermatozoa. Methods for the isolation of different parts of the sea urchin sperm are discussed. Sea urchin sperm are specialized for five functions: (1) oxidative phosphorylation to produce ATP, (2) flagellar motility, (3) the acrosome reaction, (4) binding to the egg,

Boar spermatozoa in the oviduct
Theriogenology, 2005In the pig, a functional tubal sperm reservoir (SR) is established before ovulation to ensure availability of suitable numbers of viable spermatozoa for fertilization. The boar's large ejaculate is split: most spermatozoa are delivered in a sperm-rich fraction (SRF) followed by a post-SRF fraction containing increasing amounts of the spermadhesin PSP-I/
