The Detection of Spermatozoa in the Mouth

Journal of the Forensic Science Society, 1986
Abstract A survey of cases involving oral intercourse has been carried out to find whether semen is more likely to be detected on mouth swabs or in saliva samples. In a total of 61 cases, spermatozoa were found on only 10 of the mouth swabs but were present in 22 of the saliva samples.

Cryopreservation of Avian Spermatozoa

2003
This chapter describes a simple system for cryopreservation of avian spermatozoa as pellets, formed by dropping volumes of sperm suspension directly into liquid nitrogen with dimethylacetamide as cryoprotectant. The method originates from the group at the Research Institute of Farm Animal Breeding and Genetics at St. Petersburg-Pushkin and is described

Sea Urchin Spermatozoa

2004
Publisher Summary The chapter describes the structures and functions of sea urchin spermatozoa. Methods for the isolation of different parts of the sea urchin sperm are discussed. Sea urchin sperm are specialized for five functions: (1) oxidative phosphorylation to produce ATP, (2) flagellar motility, (3) the acrosome reaction, (4) binding to the egg,

Screening for canine spermatozoa

Science & Justice, 2001
A case is presented in which possible canine spermatozoa were encountered in the routine examination of sexual assault evidence. Some observations and difficulties concerning the detection of canine spermatozoa are discussed. A possible visual screening method for canine sperm cells is offered, involving conventional forensic/histological staining ...

Cryopreservation of Stallion Spermatozoa

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Equine Practice, 1996
The main advantage to using frozen semen in any breeding program is faster genetic gain for the inherited trait desired. Milk production of dairy cows doubled (from 26,000 to 52,000 kg of milk/cow per year) between 1950 and 1980, because the dairy industry was using semen only from bulls with the greatest genetic potential for milk production.

Antibodies to spermatozoa

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1973
Abstract A total of 450 infertile women were studied for sperm antibody activity in cervical mucus extracts in vitro over a three year period. Most of the patients had unexplained infertility. Twelve women, or 2.7 per cent, were found to have the sperm-agglutination phenomenon in the cervical mucus extract by means of a microscale test (MIS-agg). This

Sorbitol Dehydrogenase in Spermatozoa

Nature, 1958
IT has been shown previously that the addition of sorbitol to actively respiring suspensions of washed, motile ram spermatozoa causes an increase in the consumption of oxygen, accompanied by an oxidative conversion of sorbitol to fructose and followed by the aerobic glycolytic breakdown of fructose to lactic acid1.

Selection of Spermatozoa

2017
The isolation of mammalian spermatozoa from the surrounding seminal fluid is a crucial practice commonly applied in assisted reproductive technology applications. The selection of sperm isolation protocol is critically important for investigators, for clinicians preparing sperm samples to be used in reproductive biotechnologies, in veterinary andrology

Spermatozoa Activity Comparator

Andrologia, 2009
