Complete meiosis in rat prepubertal testicular tissue under in vitro sequential culture conditions
Abstract Background Testicular tissue cryopreservation before gonadotoxic treatments allows fertility preservation in children suffering from cancer. Fertility restoration strategies, in particular in vitro maturation of prepubertal testicular tissue, are being developed mainly in animal models. The rat, widely used in biomedical research, including in

Self-organisation of spermatozoa in bulk suspensions via unsteady elastohydrodynamic interactions [PDF]
We developed a mechanical model of spermatozoal swimming in bulk suspensions. We traced the spatiotemporal elastohydrodynamic interactions and found that spermatozoa engaged in self-organisation: flagellar undulatory motion generated a stable polar order.

To the Editor: —In the Current Comment on "The Function of the Prostate" (The Journal, Feb. 17, 1917, p. 553), it is stated that "it has been noted that the spermatozoa are practically motionless while in the seminiferous tubules of the testis, but become actively motile in the vas deferens, or when mixed with prostatic secretion." The statement that

Modulation of the asymmetry of sea urchin sperm flagellar bending by calmodulin [PDF]
Sea urchin spermatozoa demembranated with Triton X-100 in the presence of EGTA, termed potentially asymmetric, generate asymmetric bending waves in reactivation solutions containing EGTA. After they are converted to the potentially symmetric condition by

Abstract Background Mammalian fertilization is mediated by multiple sperm acrosomal proteins, many of which are testis‐enriched transmembrane glycoproteins expressed during spermiogenesis (e.g., Izumo sperm‐egg fusion 1, Sperm acrosome associated 6, and Transmembrane protein 95).

CD33 as a leukocyte-associated marker expressed on human spermatozoa
Objective Sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-type lectins (Siglecs) are commonly present on immune cells and often mediate cell-to-cell interactions and signaling. Studies have shown the presence of Siglecs 1, 2, 5, 6, 10 and 14 on human spermatozoa.
