IL1R2 Marks and Sorts a Spermatogonial Stem Cell Population Critical for Restoring Spermatogenesis Upon Interruption in Mammals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) provide critical support to spermatogenesis. Here, the author established Il1r2 as a sorting marker for SSCs, with which further insights into the SSC heterogeneity and dynamic features can be obtained. They also confirmed findings in both mouse and human, thus validating IL1R2 as the surface marker for isolating and ...

Meta‐GWAS of Pig Semen Quality Traits Reveals Conserved Genes Regulating Mammalian Fertility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study incorporated 14 210 individuals to perform a GWAS meta‐analysis of six semen quality traits. The GWAS meta‐analysis identifies 234 GWAS loci associated with semen quality traits. The incorporation with a functional genomics resource explains potential genetic regulation of ∼40% GWAS signals underlying semen quality traits.

Ultrastructural evidence for the activation of autophagy and analysis of the protective role of autophagy in goat spermatozoa under liquid storage

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
Liquid storage of semen is a widely used technology for promoting genetic improvement in goat breeding. The short shelf life of spermatozoa greatly limits the application of liquid storage, which urgently needs to explore the underlying regulatory ...

Depolarization of sperm membrane potential is a common feature of men with subfertility and is associated with low fertilization rate at IVF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
STUDY QUESTION. Are significant abnormalities in outward (K+) conductance and resting membrane potential (Vm) present in the spermatozoa of patients undertaking IVF and ICSI and if so, what is their functional effect on fertilization success?

Mapping the Non‐Canonical Splicing Variants: Decrypting the Hidden Genetic Architecture of Idiopathic Male Infertility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study highlights the significance of non‐canonical splicing variants in male infertility, a factor often overlooked during the analysis of high‐throughput sequencing data. Incorporating the non‐canonical splicing variants prioritization in the genetic analysis pipeline will increase the genetic diagnosis of patients with male infertility ...

Addition of Cryoprotectant DMSO Reduces Damage to Spermatozoa of Yellow Catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco) during Cryopreservation: Ultrastructural Damage, Oxidative Damage and DNA Damage

open access: yesAnimals
Spermatozoa cryopreservation protocols have been established for yellow catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco), but cryopreservation can still cause cellular damage and affect spermatozoa viability and fertility.

Chemotactic Turning Behaviour of Tubularia Spermatozoa [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
1. The movements of Tubularia spermatozoa in the vicinity of micropipettes filled with extracts of female hydranths, which chemotactically attract the spermatozoa, have been recorded by multiple-flash photomicrography. 2.

EIF5A Couples Translational Control With Transcriptional Reprogramming Through Chromocenter Reorganization During Spermiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The translation factor Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A (eIF5A) is essential for male fertility in mice. It supports the translation of proteins crucial for heterochromatin organization and acrosome formation. eIF5A deficiency disrupts chromocenter integrity, increases chromatin accessibility, and causes transcriptional dysregulation ...
