ABSTRACT This study aims to elucidate the role of the ZSWIM7 gene in the etiology of infertility, focusing on its potential association with premature ovarian insufficiency and azoospermia. We investigated an 18‐year‐old female patient who presented with primary amenorrhea, hypoplasia of the uterus and ovaries, Tanner stage II breast and pubic hair ...

Seasonal variations of cauda epididymal spermatozoa of bucks
Objective: The study was conducted to evaluate the influence of season on cauda epididymal spermatozoa isolated from bucks. Materials and methods: Testes of 30 mature bucks were collected from local slaughter house, and were processed for the retrieval ...

Geometrical guidance and trapping transition of human sperm cells [PDF]
The guidance of human sperm cells under confinement in quasi 2D microchambers is investigated using a purely physical method to control their distribution. Transport property measurements and simulations are performed with dilute sperm populations, for which effects of geometrical guidance and concentration are studied in detail.

Two-dimensional flagellar synchronization in viscoelastic fluids [PDF]
Experimental studies have demonstrated that spermatozoa synchronize their flagella when swimming in close proximity. In a Newtonian fluid, it was shown theoretically that such synchronization arises passively due to hydrodynamic forces between the two swimmers if their waveforms exhibit a front-back geometrical asymmetry.

The Senescence of Spermatozoa, II [PDF]
ABSTRACT In a recent paper (Gray, 1928 a) the progressive loss of activity of a suspension of Echinus sperm was considered from two points of view; firstly, as a process of spontaneous and irreversible depletion of available energy and secondly, as a process of auto-intoxication whereby the products of activity inhibit the essential ...

Synchronization of flexible sheets [PDF]
When swimming in close proximity, some microorganisms such as spermatozoa synchronize their flagella. Previous work on swimming sheets showed that such synchronization requires a geometrical asymmetry in the flagellar waveforms. Here we inquire about a physical mechanism responsible for such symmetry-breaking in nature.

On the possible origins of DNA damage in human spermatozoa.
DNA damage in the male germ line has been linked with a variety of adverse clinical outcomes including impaired fertility, an increased incidence of miscarriage and an enhanced risk of disease in the offspring.

The Known and Unknown About Female Reproductive Tract Mucus Rheological Properties
Mucus viscosity changes as spermatozoa travel through the female reproductive tract to the egg in humans, bovines, mice, and other mammals. These changes may aid in spermatozoa navigation. However, limited information is available on the viscoelastic properties of female reproductive tract mucus, and consistent measurement techniques are lacking ...
