Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Iteratively Reweighted Spherical Equivalent Source Method for Acoustic Source Identification

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Spherical equivalent source method (S-ESM) using rigid spherical microphone arrays can simultaneously identify sound sources in all directions. In this paper, based on the reweighting and sparse representation frameworks, the sparsity-promoting ...

Two hard spheres in a spherical pore: Exact analytic results in two and three dimensions

open access: yes, 2008
The partition function and the one- and two-body distribution functions are evaluated for two hard spheres with different sizes constrained into a spherical pore. The equivalent problem for hard disks is addressed too.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

On the mean-field spherical model

open access: yes, 2005
Exact solutions are obtained for the mean-field spherical model, with or without an external magnetic field, for any finite or infinite number N of degrees of freedom, both in the microcanonical and in the canonical ensemble.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Influence of optical zone on myopic correction in small incision lenticule extraction: a short-term study

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology, 2022
Background: To evaluate the influence of preoperative optical zone on myopic correction in small incision lenticule extraction. Methods: In this retrospective clinical study, 581 eyes from 316 patients underwent SMILE were selected, including 117 eyes in

Criteria for the Equivalence of Spherical and Cylindrical Proportional Counters in Microdosimetry [PDF]

open access: yesRadiation Research, 1981
The proximity functions, or the closely related geometric reduction factors, of cylinders and spheres are compared in order to assess the degree of equivalence that can be achieved if cylindrical microdosimetric detectors are substituted for spherical instruments.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
