Analytical Investigation of Roller Skew and Tilt in a Spherical Roller Bearing
Journal of Tribology, 2022Abstract The objective of this investigation was to analytically investigate the performance of a spherical roller bearing (SRB) operating under various loading and speed combinations. In order to achieve the objective, a full six degrees-of-freedom SRB dynamic model was developed.

A Fatigue Life Comparison of Two-Row Tapered Roller Bearings and Spherical Roller Bearings
Tribology Transactions, 1999Tests were run to compare the fatigue life of two-row tapered roller bearings to that of spherical roller bearings. Both bearing types had an outer diameter of 110 mm with the spherical roller bearing having a 22 percent larger dynamic radial load rating than the tapered roller bearings.

Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 1995
Describes SKF’s three new spherical roller bearings, E for smoother running, VA 405 to resist vibration and CARB for axial displacement and misalignment. Gives a paper mill as an example of the successful use of CARB.

Spherical Roller Bearing Analysis
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1982This paper documents the analytic foundation and software architecture for the computerized mathematical simulation of spherical roller bearing behavior, with emphasis on the mechanical aspects of bearing operation at a given temperature. The resulting software, SPHERBEAN (SPHERical BEaring ANalysis), permits isothermal investigation of spherical ...

Surface analysis of boundary-lubricated spherical roller thrust bearings
Wear, 1998Abstract Boundary-lubricated spherical roller thrust bearings have been experimentally studied. Quantitative depth profile analysis of boundary layers by glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy (GD-OES), three-dimensional surface topography measurements and friction measurements were performed.

Investigation of wear degradation of railway spherical roller bearings
A predictive dynamic model is developed to investigate the wear profile of a railway axle bearing (radially loaded spherical roller bearing), under various loading and friction scenarios. The wear and degradation of railway axle bearings is an important issue for rolling stock maintenance due to the large numbers of bearings in a fleet and the ...

Optical Measurement of Roller Slip, Tilt, and Skew in a Spherical Roller Bearing
Journal of Tribology, 2022AbstractIn this study, a novel test rig was designed and developed to investigate roller slip, tilt, and skew in a spherical roller bearing (SRB). The test rig utilized a double-row 22313 SRB and was designed to allow for direct visual access to each row.

Correction of the roller generators in spherical roller bearings
Wear, 1996The subject of this work is the optimization of correction of the roller generators in the spherical roller bearing. Arch correction, resulting from the bearing construction, and arch-logarithmic correction have been discussed herein. In the studies on the effect of correction parameters on the contact capacity, the authors used a computer program ...

On the Modeling of Wear in Grease-Lubricated Spherical Roller Bearings
Tribology Transactions, 2020This work presents an approach for modeling grease-lubricated bearing wear by coupling models for boundary-lubricated wear and bearing lubrication state. The lubrication model takes a mass balance approach, using previously developed models for pressure-driven side flow loss and centrifugally driven bleed supply mechanisms.
