State of the Art of Spherical Roller Bearings

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1979
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The historical evolution of the spherical roller bearings is discussed briefly. The difrent internal and external designs common in today's market are evaluated regarding their load carrying ability, roller guidance, and friction.

Dynamic Model of Spherical Roller Bearing

Volume 8: 22nd Reliability, Stress Analysis, and Failure Prevention Conference; 25th Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, 2013
Rolling element bearings are essential machine elements in the rotating machinery. Extensive research has been conducted to study the dynamics of ball bearings, while studies related to spherical roller bearings are short-shrifted. On the other hand, the number of industrial applications that utilize spherical roller bearings has been increasing ...

Failure Analysis of Spherical Roller Bearing

Materials Science Forum, 2014
The failure of a spherical-roller bearing consisting of spherical rollers, outer and inner rings made of 100CrMn6 steel was studied. After a trial test, in which several spherical rollers were completely destroyed and a long continuous radial crack appeared in the outer ring, pitting degradation was observed on all bearing parts. The bearing components

Influences of off-sized rollers on mechanical performance of spherical roller bearings

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part K: Journal of Multi-body Dynamics, 2015
Based on a set of formulae for calculating elliptical contact parameters and elastic deformation developed by Houpert and mechanical analysis, a numerical model is established for calculating the roller load distribution and shaft axis orbit of spherical roller bearings with considering off-sized rollers in this paper.

Scale levels of damage to the raceway of a spherical roller bearing

Engineering Failure Analysis, 2016
Abstract The study determines the parameters of defects generated in a roller bearing used in the link of a mould oscillating mechanism that makes part of a continuous billet-casting machine. The evolution of such defects is described from the perspective of scale levels of deformation and fracture.

Broken Inner Rings of Spherical Roller Bearings

2019
Abstract Inner rings of spherical roller bearings out of full hardening ball bearing steel 100 CrMn 6 (Fe-1C-1.5Cr-1.1Mn, Material No. 1.3520) failed in service. Due to the cracks, parts from the middle flange broke or the rings failed in radial direction completely. All the cracks and fracture originated from the middle flange.

Mechanical analysis of spherical roller bearings due to surface waviness

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2016
This work presents a theoretical model to research the vibration due to surface waviness of spherical roller bearings (SRBs), taking account of the self-aligning feature and the external axial load. The surface waviness is described by cosinoidal functions.

Spherical Roller Bearing Simulation Model with Localized Defects

2015
Since Spherical Roller Bearings (SRBs) have high load capacity and are self-aligning, they are seeing increasing use in the rotating machinery. Typical applications are paper machines, steel rolling, marine equipment, geared transmissions and modern high power wind turbines. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly important to study the dynamic behavior

Innovation in a new spherical roller bearing from FAG

Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 1981
A NEW spherical roller bearing configuration by FAG is claimed to set new standards. The company points out that where bearings are subjected to vibration forces, spherical roller bearings with integral lips at the inner ring are the right choice.

Load-Displacement Relationships for Ball and Spherical Roller Bearings

Journal of Tribology, 2015
Analytical relationships for calculating three rolling element bearing loads (Fx, Fy, and Fz) and two tilting moments (My and Mz) as a function of three relative race translations (dx, dy, and dz) and two relative race tilting angles (dθy and dθz) have been given in a previous paper.
