Spherical Roller Bearing Analysis

Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1982
This paper documents the analytic foundation and software architecture for the computerized mathematical simulation of spherical roller bearing behavior, with emphasis on the mechanical aspects of bearing operation at a given temperature. The resulting software, SPHERBEAN (SPHERical BEaring ANalysis), permits isothermal investigation of spherical ...

Investigation of wear degradation of railway spherical roller bearings

open access: yes, 2018
A predictive dynamic model is developed to investigate the wear profile of a railway axle bearing (radially loaded spherical roller bearing), under various loading and friction scenarios. The wear and degradation of railway axle bearings is an important issue for rolling stock maintenance due to the large numbers of bearings in a fleet and the ...

Surface analysis of boundary-lubricated spherical roller thrust bearings

Wear, 1998
Abstract Boundary-lubricated spherical roller thrust bearings have been experimentally studied. Quantitative depth profile analysis of boundary layers by glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy (GD-OES), three-dimensional surface topography measurements and friction measurements were performed.

Optical Measurement of Roller Slip, Tilt, and Skew in a Spherical Roller Bearing

Journal of Tribology, 2022
AbstractIn this study, a novel test rig was designed and developed to investigate roller slip, tilt, and skew in a spherical roller bearing (SRB). The test rig utilized a double-row 22313 SRB and was designed to allow for direct visual access to each row.

Correction of the roller generators in spherical roller bearings

Wear, 1996
The subject of this work is the optimization of correction of the roller generators in the spherical roller bearing. Arch correction, resulting from the bearing construction, and arch-logarithmic correction have been discussed herein. In the studies on the effect of correction parameters on the contact capacity, the authors used a computer program ...

On the Modeling of Wear in Grease-Lubricated Spherical Roller Bearings

Tribology Transactions, 2020
This work presents an approach for modeling grease-lubricated bearing wear by coupling models for boundary-lubricated wear and bearing lubrication state. The lubrication model takes a mass balance approach, using previously developed models for pressure-driven side flow loss and centrifugally driven bleed supply mechanisms.

State of the Art of Spherical Roller Bearings

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1979
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The historical evolution of the spherical roller bearings is discussed briefly. The difrent internal and external designs common in today's market are evaluated regarding their load carrying ability, roller guidance, and friction.

Dynamic Model of Spherical Roller Bearing

Volume 8: 22nd Reliability, Stress Analysis, and Failure Prevention Conference; 25th Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise, 2013
Rolling element bearings are essential machine elements in the rotating machinery. Extensive research has been conducted to study the dynamics of ball bearings, while studies related to spherical roller bearings are short-shrifted. On the other hand, the number of industrial applications that utilize spherical roller bearings has been increasing ...

Failure Analysis of Spherical Roller Bearing

Materials Science Forum, 2014
The failure of a spherical-roller bearing consisting of spherical rollers, outer and inner rings made of 100CrMn6 steel was studied. After a trial test, in which several spherical rollers were completely destroyed and a long continuous radial crack appeared in the outer ring, pitting degradation was observed on all bearing parts. The bearing components

Influences of off-sized rollers on mechanical performance of spherical roller bearings

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part K: Journal of Multi-body Dynamics, 2015
Based on a set of formulae for calculating elliptical contact parameters and elastic deformation developed by Houpert and mechanical analysis, a numerical model is established for calculating the roller load distribution and shaft axis orbit of spherical roller bearings with considering off-sized rollers in this paper.
