Immuno–spin trapping of DNA radicals
Nature Methods, 2006The detection of DNA radicals by immuno-spin trapping (IST) is based on the trapping of radicals with 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline N-oxide (DMPO), forming stable nitrone adducts that are then detected using an anti-DMPO serum. DNA radicals are very reactive species, and because they are paramagnetic they have previously been detected only by electron spin ...

Thiones are Known to be efficient spin traps for a variety of free radicals centred at carbon and at other elements of Group IV (silicon, germanium, tin, lead), Group V (phosphorus), Group VI (oxygen, sulphur, selenium) and at transition metals (such as manganese and rhenium).

Spin trapping: ESR parameters of spin adducts.
Free radical biology & medicine, 1988Spin trapping has become a valuable tool for the study of free radicals in biology and medicine. The electron spin resonance hyperfine splitting constants of spin adducts of interest in this area are tabulated. The entries also contain a brief comment on the source of the radical trapped.
