Multiplying the heterologous production of spinosad through tandem amplification of its biosynthetic gene cluster in Streptomyces coelicolor

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, 2022
Summary Heterologous expression of the biosynthetic gene cluster (BGC) is important for studying the microbial natural products (NPs), especially for those kept in silent or poorly expressed in their original strains.

Responses of Fruit Flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) to Protein Bait Applied at Different Densities

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 150, Issue 6, Page 736-742, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The effectiveness of odour‐based lures for insects is related to their active space, the air volume around an odour source in which an insect will detect and move towards it. This principle applies to protein baits laced with toxicants that are used as either sprays or stations to suppress pest fruit fly populations.

The Inevitable Fate of Tetranychus urticae on Tomato Plants Treated with Entomopathogenic Fungi and Spinosad

open access: yesJournal of Fungi
Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae) is a pervasive and damaging mite pest of tomato crops, leading to important economic losses globally. This study evaluated the acaricidal efficacy of spinosad, alone and in combination with Beauveria bassiana ...

Toxicity of spinosad to temephos-resistant Aedes aegypti populations in Brazil.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
The mosquito Aedes aegypti is the primary vector of different arboviruses and represents a major public health problem. Several Brazilian populations of Ae. aegypti have developed resistance to temephos, the most used organophosphate larvicide. New tools

Scientific Opinion on waiving of the dog studies in the regulatory process of agrochemicals approval

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Commission Regulation (EU) No. 283/2013 sets out the data requirements for pesticide active substances and includes short‐term oral toxicity testing in rodents (90‐day rat study) and non‐rodents (90‐day dog study) to support human health hazard assessment for pesticide active substances in the European Union (EU). However, the relevance of the

Efficacy and non-target impact of spinosad, Bti and temephos larvicides for control of Anopheles spp. in an endemic malaria region of southern Mexico

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2014
Background The larvicidal efficacy of the naturally derived insecticide spinosad, for control of immature stages of Anopheles albimanus and associated culicids, was compared to that of synthetic and biological larvicides.

FIELD-LABORATORY EVALUATION OF SPINOSAD AND TRIFLUMURON ALONE AND AS MIXTURES WITH SOME SURFACTANTS AGAINST 4TH INSTAR LARVAE OF S. LITTORALIS

open access: yesJournal of Productivity and Development, 2008
This study was carried out to evaluate the initial and residual effects of spinosad and triflumuron which were used alone and as mixtures with four surfactants; Ethoxylated Eugenol, QAS, Triton X-100 and Tween-20 against 4th instar larvae of Spodoptera ...

Gene‐specific double‐stranded RNAs induce mortality in the South African mealybug Delottococcus aberiae

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 6, Page 5184-5194, June 2026.
Gene‐specific double‐stranded RNAs effectively silence essential genes in the invasive citrus pest Delottococcus aberiae, leading to significant mortality through both microinjection and oral delivery. These results provide proof of concept for RNA interference‐based biopesticides as selective and sustainable tools for citrus integrated pest management.

Spinosad‐based insecticide is an effective control method for the potato soil pests Agriotes sp. and Melolontha sp.

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 66, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
Abstract Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) growers who would like to biologically control major soil pests of potato face an increasing challenge. Two pest species have a major impact on yield quality: white grubs (Melolontha sp.; Eschscholtz, 1829) and wireworms (Agriotes sp.; Fabricius, 1775). Farmers who want to grow potatoes in a sustainable fashion to

The effects of spinosad insecticide to adults of Apis mellifera, Megachile rotundata and Nomia melanderi (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Horticultural Science, 2001
The toxicity of spinosad to adult female bees tended to be least to the honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) (LD50 = 0.078 pg/bee), intermediate to the alkali bee (Nomia melanderi) (0.065 pg/bee), and greatest to the alfalfa leafcutter bee (Megachile rotundata (
