Spiny lobsters of Ceylon

Spiny lobsters of the family Palinuridae are known to exist in parts of Asia such as India, Japan, Indonesia and Malaya. In Ceylon spiny lobsters are caught chiefly by a primitive type of gear designed to catch these species and incidentally by nets set to catch fish.

Maturation of the Spiny Lobster Panulirus japonicus

Male and female reproductive systems of the spiny lobster Panulirus japonicus were studied anatomically. Development of the ovary was observed histologically to classify its maturation process of the oocyte. The reproductive system of the males consisted of the testis, vas deferens and spiral-shaped genital apparatus which was provided externally.
