Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Spiral determinants

open access: yes, 2017
We evaluate determinants of "spiral" matrices, which are matrices in which entries are spiralling from the centre of the matrices towards the outside, with prescribed increments from one entry to the next depending on whether one moves right, up, left ...

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Compact Acoustic Rainbow Trapping in a Bioinspired Spiral Array of Graded Locally Resonant Metamaterials

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Acoustic rainbow trappers, based on frequency selective structures with graded geometries and/or properties, can filter mechanical waves spectrally and spatially to reduce noise and interference in receivers.

Disk heating by more than one spiral density wave

open access: yes, 2005
We consider a differentially rotating, 2D stellar disk perturbed by two steady state spiral density waves moving at different patterns speeds. Our investigation is based on direct numerical integration of initially circular test-particle orbits.

Star Formation Efficiency in the Central 1 kpc Region of Early-Type Spiral Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
It has been reported recently that there are some early-type spiral (Sa--Sab) galaxies having evident star-forming regions which concentrate in their own central 1-kpc.

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Pneumocentrifugal Classification of Dispersed Particles during Grain Milling

open access: yesТехника и технология пищевых производств
Russia enjoys a stable demand for flour products, including those obtained by the dry method of starch and gluten production. This study featured pneumocentrifugal parameters of fine particles in a spiral separator that classified milled grain into ...

Artificial intelligence and algorithmic decisions in fraud detection: An interpretive structural model

open access: yesData & Policy, 2023
The use of artificial intelligence and algorithmic decision-making in public policy processes is influenced by a range of diverse drivers. This article provides a comprehensive view of 13 drivers and their interrelationships, identified through empirical

Star formation rates and the kinematics of gas in the spiral arms of NGC 628

open access: yes, 2015
Relations between star formation rates along the spiral arms and the velocities of gas inflow into the arms in grand-design galaxy NGC 628 were studied.
