Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Design and Construction of a 500–800 MHz Square Spiral Dipole Microstrip Antenna Structure

open access: yesJournal of Electrical Engineering and Computer
An antenna can be used to detect an object. The dimensions of the antenna also affect the working frequency, the smaller dimensions, the higher the working frequency and the closer the antenna range to radiate waves.

Ferroelectricity in spiral magnets. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2005
It was recently observed that the ferroelectrics showing the strongest sensitivity to an applied magnetic field are spiral magnets. We present a phenomenological theory of inhomogeneous ferroelectric magnets, which describes their thermodynamics and ...

Gas Dynamics in the Milky Way: Second Pattern Speed and Large-Scale Morphology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We present new gas flow models for the Milky Way inside the solar circle. To this end we use SPH simulations in gravitational potentials determined from the NIR luminosity distribution (including spiral arms) which are based on the COBE/DIRBE maps.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Star formation rates and the kinematics of gas in the spiral arms of NGC 628

open access: yes, 2015
Relations between star formation rates along the spiral arms and the velocities of gas inflow into the arms in grand-design galaxy NGC 628 were studied.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Numerical Analysis of Three-Dimensional Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell with Spiral Channels [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering
We introduce a 3D methodology based on the Finite Volume Method to solve the governing equations of the Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell with a spiral gas channel design. These equations were evaluated in both the anode and cathode gas channels.

TEXTILE PATTERNS FOR INTERIOR DESIGN WITH THREE-DIMENSIONAL SPIRALS [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the University of Oradea: Fascicle of Textiles, Leatherwork, 2023
Three-dimensional (3D) spirals are fascinating geometric shapes that are used in a variety of applications, such as textile fabric pattern and texture design, architecture, art, and engineering.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
