Results 101 to 110 of about 469,814 (290)
The nearby face-on spiral galaxy M101 has been observed with the Far-Infrared Surveyor (FIS) onboard AKARI. The far-infrared four-band images reveal fine spatial structures of M101, which include global spiral patterns, giant HII regions embedded in ...

Ram-pressure stripped molecular gas in the Virgo spiral galaxy NGC 4522 [PDF]
IRAM 30 m 12 CO(1-0) and 12 CO(2-1) HERA observations are presented for the ram-pressure stripped Virgo spiral galaxy NGC 4522. The CO emission is detected in the galactic disk and the extraplanar gas.

A Slowly Pulsating Run‐Away B Star at High Galactic Latitude Ejected From a Spiral Arm
ABSTRACT We report the discovery of the young B6 V run‐away star LAMOST J083323.18 + 430825.4, 2.5 kpc above the Galactic plane. Its atmospheric parameters and chemical composition are determined from LAMOST spectra, indicating normal composition. Effective temperature (Teff$$ {T}_{\mathrm{eff}} $$ = 14,500$$ \mathrm{14,500} $$ K) and gravity (logg ...

Spiral Structure and Galaxy Environment
Among 330 normal spirals of types Sa-Sc the fraction of objects exhibiting ``ring'', ``intermediate'' and ``spiral'' arm varieties does not correlated with environment.

The Stability of Some Galaxy Disks is Still Perplexing
The problem of how some disk galaxies avoid forming bars remains unsolved. Many galaxy models having reasonable properties continue to manifest vigorous instabilities that rapidly form strong bars and no widely accepted idea has yet been advanced to ...

X-Ray Halo around the Spiral Galaxy NGC 4631 Observed with Suzaku [PDF]
Suzaku observation of the edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 4631 confirmed its X-ray halo extending out to about 10 kpc from the galactic disk. The XIS spectra yielded the temperature and metal abundance for the disk and the halo regions.

Non‐thermal plasma decontamination of microbes: a state of the art
Abstract Microbial decontamination is a critical concern in various sectors, from healthcare to food processing. Traditional decontamination methods, while effective to a degree, present limitations in terms of environmental impact, efficiency, and potential harm to the target material. This review investigates the emerging realm of non‐thermal plasma (

The Dynamics of the Spiral Galaxy M81 [PDF]
The spiral galaxy M81 is a challenging object for testing a density-wave theory. It is of large angular size and favourably inclined to the line of sight; radio observations of neutral atomic hydrogen showing well defined spiral arms with noncircular motions are available (Rots and Shane 1975), and there is evidence from surface photometry for density ...
