Farmaceutski glasnik, 2019Unatoč višestaničnoj organizaciji u plutajućim nitima, spirulina je ipak jednostanični organizam kod kojeg svaka stanica samostalno obnaša ulogu čitavog organizma. Stvaranje hrane u pojedinoj stanici ovisno je o fotosintezi pa je spirulina izuzetno bogata pigmentima. Preko 10 % njezine suhe biomase otpada na plavi pigment C- fikocijanin.
