Genome-wide analysis of G-quadruplex in Spodoptera frugiperda

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2023
Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is a globally distributed lepidopteran crop pest that has developed resistance to most insecticides. The G-quadruplex (G4) is a secondary structure in the genome enriched in the promoters for regulating gene expression. However, little is known about G4 in S.

Biocontrol potential of entomopathogenic nematodes for the sustainable management of Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in maize.

Pest Management Science, 2022
BACKGROUND The occurrence of Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) in Asia was reported for the first time from Karnataka in 2018. This pest is widely distributed in India, causing significant damage to maize.

Pheromonal Divergence Between Two Strains of Spodoptera frugiperda

Journal of Chemical Ecology, 2013
Spodoptera frugiperda consists of two genetically and behaviorally different strains, the corn- and the rice-strain, which seem to be in the process of sympatric speciation. We investigated the role of strain-specific sexual communication as a prezygotic mating barrier between both strains by analyzing strain-specific variation in female pheromone ...

Expression and purification of recombinant nattokinase in Spodoptera frugiperda cells

Biotechnology Letters, 2007
A recombinant baculovirus, rv-egfp-NK, containing a reporter gene encoding the enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP), was used to express nattokinase (NK), a fibrinolytic enzyme, in Spodoptera frugiperda (SF-9) cells. The recombinant protein also included a histidine tag for purification using Ni(2+) resins. The recombinant NK, approximately 30 kDa,

Production of rotavirus-like particles in Spodoptera frugiperda larvae

Journal of Virological Methods, 2008
A strategy for the production of virus-like particles (VLPs) from simian rotavirus in larvae of the lepidopteran Spodoptera frugiperda is described. VP2 and VP6 coding sequences were co-expressed in larvae co-infected with recombinant baculovirus and these structural proteins self-assembled into VLPs that were secreted and accumulated in the haemolymph.

The evaluation of the biological control of Spodoptera Frugiperda in corn cultivation: biological control of Spodoptera Frugiperda

2018
Corn is important grain in human nutrition and raw material for the elaboration of balanced food products. It has been world-wide reported that the most aggressive plague insect is the cogollero worm (Spodoptera frugiperda) since it is considered a defoliator, consumes foliage and attack buds, causing gouging on the softest parts of leaves, slices ...

Purification of DNA for the transfection of a Spodoptera frugiperda cell line

Methods in Cell Science, 2002
Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf-9) cells have been widely used in baculovirus expression systems, transient gene expression studies and transgenic cell lines. These applications commonly require the transfection of bacterial plasmid DNA. One of the most reliable methods of preparing transfection-quality plasmid DNA is cesium chloride (CsCl) density gradient ...

Regulation of sterol nutrition in the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda

Journal of Insect Physiology
Plant sterols constitute the sole source of sterol nutrition for insect herbivores, yet the sterol content of plants is complex and variable, and insect sterol nutrient regulation remains to be elucidated. In this study, we investigated cholesterol regulation inSpodoptera frugiperda using a geometric framework for nutrition.

Comparative histopathology of a granulosis and a nuclear polyhedrosis of Spodoptera frugiperda

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1968
Abstract A histopathological study of two virus diseases of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, revealed that the granulosis virus attacks only the fat body, causes a proliferation of cells, and requires a relatively long time to produce mortality; however, the nuclear-polyhedrosis virus attacks a wide variety of tissues, does not cause a ...
