Rhythmic biosynthesis of sex pheromone modulates the calling and mating behaviors of Tuta absoluta (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae)

open access: yesNew Plant Protection, Volume 2, Issue 4, December 2025.
The six‐step “morning flight–mating” behavioral sequence in Tuta absoluta is characterized by rhythmic behavior occurring from 05:30 to 08:00, with a peak from 05:30 to 06:30. This “morning flight–mating” rhythm in T. absoluta is regulated by the rhythmic release of sex pheromones.

Evaluation of two viral isolates as a potential biocontrol agent against the Egyptian cotton leafworm, Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Biological Pest Control, 2020
Two different Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) nucleopolyhedrovirus (SpliNPV) isolates were obtained from natural infected S. littoralis larvae in Egypt.

Effect of sublethal doses of some insecticides and their role on detoxication enzymes and protein-content of Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

open access: yesBulletin of the National Research Centre, 2020
The indiscriminating and intensive use of insecticides to control the cotton leafworm (CLW), Spodoptera littoralis (Boisduval) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), usually induces high levels of resistance.

Metabolism of Epoxidised Withanolides by a Generalist and a Specialist Insect Species

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 14, Issue 12, December 2025.
Larvae of Heliothis (Chloridea) virescence and subflexa have the ability to convert the epoxidized terpenoid 4β‐hydroxywithanolide E (4BHWE) to withanolide S. The conversion is found by feeding the larvae an artificial diet supplemented with 13C‐labeled 4BHWE.

Prediction of mixture toxicity of essential oil constituents using nonparametric and parametric models against Musca domestica L.

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 12, Page 8595-8606, December 2025.
This study evaluated the predictive performance of mixture toxicity models for binary blends of essential oil constituents against Musca domestica. Parametric models (BRAID, Zimmer, MuSyC) outperformed conventional null models by accounting for synergistic or antagonistic interactions, highlighting the need for model selection based on interaction ...

S‐Methyl‐l‐Cysteine Sulfoxide: A Hidden Layer of Defences Against Herbivorous Insects in Brassicaceae

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 48, Issue 12, Page 8960-8969, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Plants defend themselves against herbivorous insects through diverse morphological and biochemical traits. Non‐protein amino acids (NPAAs) are an important component of the plant metabolome, although their defensive function remains largely unexplored.

Evaluation of bio-rational insecticides to control Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) and Spodoptera exigua (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) fed on Vicia faba L. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Two botanical pesticides, Neem Azal-T/S (NA) and Quassia amara, one biopesticide, Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. aizawai (Bta) and one combination of Bta + NA were tested against 2nd and 4th instar larvae of the noctuids Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) and ...

Morphological changes induced by thermal treatment and gamma irradiation on the males' hind legs of Spodoptera littoralis (Noctuidae; Lepidoptera)

open access: yesJournal of Radiation Research and Applied Sciences, 2015
External morphology of males' hind legs of Spodoptera littoralis subjected to thermal treatment (33 °C and 37 °C) or/and irradiated with substerilizing doses of gamma radiation (75, 100 and 150 Gy) were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in
