The Antiviral Activity of Polyphenols

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 69, Issue 15, August 2025.
Polyphenols demonstrate remarkable antiviral properties by effectively disrupting multiple biochemical processes essential for viral replication. ABSTRACT Polyphenols are secondary metabolites produced by a large variety of plants. These compounds that comprise the class of phenolic acids, stilbenes, lignans, coumarins, flavonoids, and tannins have a ...

Wasps Beyond Bees: Crop Species of Spondias (Anacardiaceae) Vary in Floral Scent and Attract Different Pollinator Taxa

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 149, Issue 7, Page 1070-1083, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Spondias species are increasingly valued for their fruit production, which relies heavily on insect pollination. The flowers of these species are generalised, attracting a diverse array of insect visitors, including bees, beetles, flies, wasps and butterflies.

Transcriptional response in larvae of the generalist fruit fly Anastrepha obliqua feeding on three different tropical host plants

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 173, Issue 7, Page 708-723, July 2025.
We investigated the molecular basis of host switching by the phytophagous West Indian fruit fly (A. obliqua). Third‐instar larvae showed differential gene expression according to host plants: red mombin, mango, and carambola. The main gene categories differentially expressed were digestion, detoxification, and gene regulators.

Biocultural Determinants of Mothers' Complementary Feeding Decisions in the Urban Brazilian Amazon

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Human Biology, Volume 37, Issue 5, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Objective Complementary feeding (CF) occurs during a critical period of infant growth and development with life‐long health implications. Despite international efforts, there remains significant variation in the adequacy of complementary diets across settings. In Brazil, there is marked variation in adherence to CF guidelines and infant growth
