Resonance energy transfer and interface forces:Quantum electrodynamical analysis [PDF]
On the propagation of radiation with a suitably resonant optical frequency through a dense chromophoric system - a doped solid for example - photon capture is commonly followed by one or more near-field transfers of the resulting optical excitation ...

Emergence of spontaneous assembly activity in developing neural networks without afferent input.
Spontaneous activity is a fundamental characteristic of the developing nervous system. Intriguingly, it often takes the form of multiple structured assemblies of neurons. Such assemblies can form even in the absence of afferent input, for instance in the

Self-replication and evolution of DNA crystals [PDF]
Is it possible to create a simple physical system that is capable of replicating itself? Can such a system evolve interesting behaviors, thus allowing it to adapt to a wide range of environments?

Spontaneous propagation of self-assembly in a continuous medium
We report a mechanism in which self-assembly propagates spontaneously in a continuous medium, enabling the delivery of local order information to distance. In a large stable system a locally self-assembled structure as a precursor destabilizes its surrounding areas through a dipole interaction.

Dissolving assemblies to guarantee security
This paper discusses the possibilities provided by the provisions of the Polish law to dissolve an assembly in order to guarantee security. The author analyzes the provisions of the Polish normative system that defines the essence and scope of the right ...

Activity-dependent plasticity of mouse hippocampal assemblies in vitro
Memory formation is associated with the generation of transiently stable neuronal assemblies. In hippocampal networks, such groups of functionally coupled neurons express highly ordered spatiotemporal activity patterns which are coordinated by local ...

Fluid Layered Ferroelectrics with Global C∞v Symmetry
Ferroelectricity in fluid materials, which allows free rotation of molecules, is an unusual phenomenon raising cutting‐edge questions in science. Conventional ferroelectric liquid crystals have been found in phases with low symmetry that permit the ...

Pressure effects on lipids and bio-membrane assemblies [PDF]
Membranes are amongst the most important biological structures; they maintain the fundamental integrity of cells, compartmentalize regions within them and play an active role in a wide range of cellular processes.
