By employing a combination of single cell and spatial transcriptomic sequencing, this study presents a stereoscopic response of rice leaf to Magnaporthe oryzae infection. The vascular tissues mount defenses by producing phytoalexins. The immune strength is stronger toward the rice leaf tip than that of the leaf base.

Mushroom spore dispersal by convectively-driven winds [PDF]
Thousands of fungal species rely on mushroom spores to spread across landscapes. It has long been thought that spores depend on favorable airflows for dispersal -- that active control of spore dispersal by the parent fungus is limited to an impulse delivered to the spores to carry them clear of the gill surface. Here we show that evaporative cooling of

Spores: Stateless Predictive Onion Routing for E-Squads [PDF]
Mass surveillance of the population by state agencies and corporate parties is now a well-known fact. Journalists and whistle-blowers still lack means to circumvent global spying for the sake of their investigations. With Spores, we propose a way for journalists and their sources to plan a posteriori file exchanges when they physically meet.

Morphology Effect of Puffball Spores on Hemostasis: A Promising Solution for Hemostatic Challenges
This work presents an innovative approach to address current challenges in hemostasis by drawing inspiration from the natural hemostatic material, Puffball spores (Bovistella sp.). Their unique hollow ball‐rod morphology and texture composition enable blood concentration and promote the release of procoagulant factors, while the nano‐protrusions on the

Tubular Nanostructures from Large‐Pore 2D Covalent Organic Frameworks
A wavy mesoporous 2D covalent organic framework (COF) has been synthesized with a 6‐nm hexagonal pore lattice. This COF forms non‐covalent tubular domains that can be separated by mild sonication, yielding a family of tubular COF nanostructures that combine a 1D morphology with accessible mesopores.

Surface tension propulsion of fungal spores by use of microdroplets [PDF]
Many edible mushrooms eject their spores (about 10 microns in size) at high speed (about 1 m/s) using surface tension forces in a few microseconds. Basically the coalescence of a droplet with the spore generates the necessary momentum to eject the spore. We have detailed this mechanism in \cite{noblin2}.

Spore Resistance Properties [PDF]
ABSTRACT Spores of various Bacillus and Clostridium species are among the most resistant life forms known. Since the spores of some species are causative agents of much food spoilage, food poisoning, and human disease, and the spores of Bacillus anthracis are

Two closely related whitefly species, Trialeurodes vaporariorum and Bemisia tabaci, are found to each possess a plant‐derived TLP gene, but with entirely different functions. This finding of functional divergence challenges the notion that HGT genes maintain similar functions across species and shows that they can follow unique evolutionary paths that ...
