Analyses of the Deformability and Chemistry of Non‐Metallic Inclusions in QT Steels With Increased Recycling‐Induced Tramp Element Content

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This work uses high‐temperature dilatometry to examine how the tramp elements Cu, Ni, and Sn affect the deformability of non‐metallic inclusions and matrix in quench‐and‐temper steel. Mg‐bearing inclusions deform less than Mg‐free ones. Copper lowers formability. Nickel increases deformability.

Insights Into Paint‐Bake Toughening of Resistance Spot Welds of a 2.0 GPa Warm‐Stamped Medium‐Mn Steel

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Paint baking of resistance spot welded joints of 2.0 GPa warm‐stamped medium‐Mn steel activates low‐temperature tempering, forming fine cementite in the fusion zone and enhancing toughness. Crack propagation resistance increases, shifting the failure mode from partial interfacial to complete pullout, with peak load and energy absorption rising ...

RESISTANCE SPOT REPAIR WELDING OF SPOT WELDED STEEL SHEET

Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2005
ABSTRACT Repeated resistance spot repair welding over the poor spot weld and interface fractured spot weld of low carbon steel sheet has been studied. The repair welding has been carried out at different parameters to optimize the welding current, weld time, and electrode force as the primary welding parameters for maximum joint strength.

Optimization of spot-welded structures

Finite Elements in Analysis and Design, 2001
This paper addresses the optimization problem of a spot-welded structure under fatigue life consideration. The so-called umbrella model of spot welds and the radial stresses around a spot weld were introduced into the optimization process. The idea was to study the optimization problem using the type of analysis which is now considered to be valid for ...

Photodermatitis due to spot welding

British Journal of Dermatology, 1987
The case of a patient with a 1-year history of recurrent, severe facial dermatitis is reported. The role of ultraviolet radiation from arc welding or other equipment at work in inducing dermatitis is discussed.

Resistance Spot Welding

2017
In the current chapter we debate a joining process called resistance spot welding which finds many applications ranging from the automobile industry to robotics. In the first part of the chapter we present the construction of a non-local mathematical model illustrating the phase transition occurs during this joining process.

Effect of Spot Weld Indentation on Spot Weld Nugget Characterization

2018 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS), 2018
When using the ultrasonic attenuation to size the nugget in the C-scan image, the contribution of indentation to ultrasonic wave attenuation will affect the accuracy of sizing the nugget. This paper studies the effect of the indentation on the sizing of spot weld nugget.

Testing of spot welds

Ultrasonics, 1965
Abstract With transducers inside the electrodes of a spot welder it is possible to examine each spot weld as it is made. Poor fusion, inclusions and cracks can all be clearly detected and distinguished without any delay to the welding ...

Keyhole laser spot welding

ICALEO 2002: 21st International Congress on Laser Materials Processing and Laser Microfabrication, 2002
Physical mechanisms and quality criteria of keyhole laser spot welding partially differ from continuous laser welding, demanding separate investigations. A survey on progress in laser spot welding will be given, encompassing first welds with a ruby laser in the early sixties, various industrial applications, and high speed X-ray imaging of the keyhole ...

Resistance of the Spot Weld

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1940
THE OUTPUT of resistance-welding machines is generally determined by Joule's law W=RI2 where R is the resistance of the heated metal being welded and I is the current flowing during the welding operation. With the majority of machines, welding current is determined by the internal impedance of the machine, the resistance of the weld being but a small ...
