Spontaneous endocrine tumors in Sprague-Dawley rats
Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology, 1979Spontaneous endocrine tumors were found in 81 of 100 Sprague-Dawley rats (42 males and 39 females) which survived for more than 2 years. Most of these tumors were medullary carcinomas of the thyroid, followed by tumors of the anterior pituitary gland, pheochromocytomas and cortical adenomas of the adrenal gland, and islet cell tumors of the pancreas ...

Spontaneous neoplasms in aged sprague-dawley rats
Archives of Toxicology, 1992Incidence of neoplastic lesions in untreated Sprague-Dawley rats (1340 males and 1329 females) used as controls in 17 carcinogenicity studies are tabulated and evaluated. In male rats, the most common neoplasms were benign pheochromocytomas and keratoacanthomas (4.0% in each case) followed by pancreatic islet cell adenomas (3.7%), thyroid ...

Polycystic kidney disease in Sprague-Dawley rats
Experimental and Toxicologic Pathology, 2015Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a cystic genetic disorder of the kidneys which is typically associated with cystic bile duct dilatation in the liver in humans, and domestic and laboratory animals. In humans, there are two types of PKD, autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD ...

Sugar-Induced Hypertension in Sprague-Dawley Rats
American Journal of Hypertension, 1991Male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed either conventional rat chow, or a diet in which vegetable starch was replaced with either glucose or sucrose for two weeks. At the end of this period, measurements were made of weight, blood pressure, and plasma glucose, insulin, and triglyceride concentrations.

Spontaneous brain tumours in Sprague-Dawley rats
Food and Chemical Toxicology, 1986Data were collected over a 5-yr period on brain tumours occurring spontaneously among Sprague-Dawley-derived rats in the HRC laboratories. Gliomas, like meningiomas, tended to occur more among males than in females, and in general appeared to be lesions of older rats. Astrocytic tumours of rats were less differentiated than those in man.

Ozone uptake in awake Sprague-Dawley rats
Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, 1987Knowledge of ozone (O3) uptake in rats in integral to efforts to quantitatively extrapolate animal data to man. We have measured percentage O3 uptake in 30 adult Sprague-Dawley rats exposed, nose only, for 1 hr to 0.3, 0.6, or 1.0 ppm O3. Tidal volume and breathing rate measurements, obtained by plethysmography, were time-matched with changes in ...

Pup attraction to lactating Sprague-Dawley rats
Behavioral Biology, 1976Pup attraction to lactating Sprague-Dawley rats was demonstrated in an olfactory discrimination apparatus with own pups and with standard test pups, i.e., 20 day-old pups who had never been in physical contact with the adult experimental animals. Pup attraction was observed from Day 8 to Day 26 postpartum.

Inherited tertiary hypothyroidism in Sprague–Dawley rats
Brain Research, 2007Thyroid hormones (THs) are important in the development and maturation of the central nervous system (CNS). The significant actions of THs during CNS development occur at the time when TH levels are lower than those in the mother and the hypothalamic-thyroid (HPT) axis is not fully functional.

Normal colon of Sprague-Dawley rats
Anatomy and Embryology, 1992The patterns of expression of the human-tumor-associated antigens, CO17-1A, GA73-3, BR55-2, GICA19-9, CA50 and carcino-embryonic antigen (CEA) were studied in the normal colonic mucosa (the last three also in the serum) of Sprague-Dawley rats. Four immunohistochemically different segments were identified: caecum, ascending colon, transverse colon and ...
