A Communicating Intestinal Duplication in a Sprague-Dawley Rat [PDF]
Duplications of the gastrointestinal tract arc exceedingly rare in laboratory animals. We report a case of a communicating intestinal duplication in a 17-wk-old Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat. The duplication was present in the mesenteric border of the ileum, and both proximal and distal ends were communicated with the lumen of ileum.

Spontaneous Odontoameloblastoma in a Female Sprague Dawley Rat [PDF]
The present report describes a spontaneously developing, highly infiltrative, and expansile neoplasm in the mandible of a 9-month-old female Sprague Dawley rat. The lesion consisted of abundant odontogenic epithelium with induction of osteodentin in the adjacent mesenchyme and was classified therefore as an odontoameloblastoma. Odontoameloblastomas are

Improved timed-mating, non-invasive method using fewer unproven female rats with pregnancy validation via early body mass increases [PDF]
For studies requiring accurate conception-timing, reliable, efficient methods of detecting oestrus reduce time and costs, whilst improving welfare. Standard methods use vaginal cytology to stage cycle, and breeders are paired–up using approximately five ...

Spontaneous Iron Overload in Sprague-Dawley Rats [PDF]
In a review of the toxicological studies performed in our laboratory during the period 1986-1995, we occasionally observed significant iron overloading in the liver. Liver tissue was examined by light and electron microscopy, and the results were analyzed by sex and age (7, 9, 11, 19, 31, 59, and 111 wk).
