On the prediction and structures of wide-angle full-cone liquid sprays

Atomization and Sprays, 2001
This article describes the modification, use, and validation of a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code applied to model solid-cone sprays produced by pressure-swirl atomizers. The finite-volume code used is a three-dimensional, orthogonal, two-phase, Lagrangian-tracking, transient code.

Numerical Analysis of Spray Nozzle for Predicting Spray Cone Angle and Pressure Drop

2nd International Energy Conversion Engineering Conference, 2004
The purpose of this study was the numerical simulation of flow within a spray nozzle for high heat flux spray cooling applications. The particular emphasis was on the prediction of free surface structure after the fluid exits the nozzle. The nozzle top plate had four openings; one at the center and other three at a radial location away from the center ...

Theoretical and experimental investigations on the coeffizient of discharge and spray cone angle of a swirl spray atomizing nozzle

Acta Mechanica, 1980
An understanding of the relation between the important sprary characteristics of a swirl nozzle with its different geometrical dimensions forms the basis of a unified design procedure of the nozzles for any preassigned performance. The coefficient of discharge and spray cone angle are two of such important performance characteristics.

Experimental study of the effect of the spray cone angle on the temperature distribution in a can micro-combustor

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2021
Abstract In this study, the performance of a can micro-combustor of a micro turbine is studied experimentally. The purpose of this study is to show the coupling effect of air flow rate and fuel injection on temperature distribution and flame blowoff limits in the combustion chamber.

Numerical prediction of air core diameter, coefficient of discharge and spray cone angle of a swirl spray pressure nozzle

International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow, 2000
Abstract Theoretical predictions of air core diameter, coefficient of discharge and spray cone angle of a swirl spray pressure nozzle have been made from numerical computations of flow within the nozzle. The diameter of central air core that stabilizes inside the nozzle has been predicted from a hydrodynamic situation that yields the minimum ...

Effect of Spray Cone Angle on Flame Stability in an Annular Gas Turbine Combustor

International Journal of Turbo and Jet Engines, 2016
AbstractEffect of fuel spray cone angle in an aerogas turbine combustor has been studied using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and full-scale combustor testing. For CFD analysis, a 22.5° sector of an annular combustor is modeled and the governing equations are solved using the eddy dissipation combustion model in ANSYS CFX computational package. The

Correlation of Spray Cone Angle and Fuel Line Pressure in a Pressure-Swirl Injector Spray

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2004
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The transient cone angle of a pressure swirl spray from an injector for gasoline direct injection engines was measured from 2D Mie scattering images. Iso-octane was used as the fluid that was delivered at room temperature for two different static pressures, 5MPa and 8.5MPa.

Effects of injection pressure difference on droplet size distribution and spray cone angle in spray cooling of liquid nitrogen

Cryogenics, 2017
Abstract Spray cooling with liquid nitrogen as the working fluid has been widely employed in a plenty of fields requiring cooling at cryogenic temperature, such as the cryogenic wind tunnels and cooling super-conducting magnets. In this study, we built a liquid nitrogen spray system and experimentally investigated the influence of injection pressure ...

Spray cone angle and its correlation in a high pressure fuel spray

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1985
AbstractAn experimental study was conducted to determine the effects of nozzle orifice size and operating parameters on the cone angle of a liquid fuel spray injected into a gaseous environment. High fuel pressures in the range 55 to 130 MPa and background gas density ranging from atmospheric to 40 kg/m3 were used in the study.

Effect of Inlet Slot Number on the Spray Cone Angle and Discharge Coefficient of Swirl Atomizer

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2012
AbstractLiquid atomization is a process of changing the liquid into small droplets. There are many applications which are related to liquid atomization including fuel injection in combustion systems and also in agricultural sprays. In pressure swirl atomizer, the liquid is injected into the atomizer through tangential port and a swirling motion is ...
